Chicago Experts... Nice Hotels?

My DH and I are planning a weekend trip to Chicago next month. I've never been before, and he's never been when it wasn't with "The Guy's" ;)

I am trying to find a nice hotel in the city. Nothing too expensive, but nothing inexpensive and cheap. If it had parking, that would seal the deal. (:rotfl: I know, right!)

I don't need "lush" or "luxurious", but prefer something "contemporary".

Any suggestions?

I stayed at the Hotel Sax a year ago (it's right beside House of Blues). There's a parking lot 2 blocks away (it's gated) that I paid $25 to park for the whole weekend (this was in April). I believe parking at the hotel was about $30 a day. I got a good deal through I think it was Expedia. I took mainly trains, busses, taxi's around so I don't know how close to walking distance you want to be to everything.

The hotel was very nice (it looks like it's now called "Sax Chicago").

Are you staying downtown or in one of the suburbs?

I don't know what your budget is but the Palmer House Hilton often has nice weekend prices. It is one block from Michigan Ave and the Art Institute. We have stayed there a few times and love it.

I second this!! :goodvibes

I've always stayed at the Drake hotel on the upper north side. There is less car and foot traffic in that area, so getting to sleep at night can be a bit easier. I never had a problem with the walking distances either. The hotel is old and dated, but they've always made it up with their service.

Hey fellow Michigander. We lived in Chicago for a while and now travel back there a few times a year. When it's just DH and I we stay at the Omni on Michigan Ave. Nothing beats it for a romantic, high end room at a reasonable price. Especially if you go online and book 14 or 21 days in advance. The location is perfect and we often get a corner room with city view. The lounge is very cozy to have an evening drink and people watch out the gigantic windows looking down on the michigan ave traffic, but we haven't eaten in the hotel before so can't comment on that. They do have a parking garage but the cost is insane, maybe $50/night or something like that. :confused3 We've stayed in a few other places on or near Mich Ave but this is the one we keep coming back to. Good luck, happy travels.
