Never been to Chicago other then layovers at O'Hare, now me and DH are going for a weekend trip starting tomorrow morning.

Question: Do the trains/buses stop at every stop automatically or do we need to press stop button :rotfl2: , have no clue.

Do they announce next stop?

We're supposed to take the Orange line from Midway to Quincy/Wells..(we're staying at W hotel City Center) no idea where that is, first time passengers..help :rotfl: oh..I've looked at the maps of the city but I still feel lost :rolleyes1

Which Gino's is closest to Shedd Aquarium and please tell me Navy Pier is a MUST DO!

Thanks!!

ok....let see here....
The trains stop automatically. They do announce the next stop, and there is usually a map of the line you are on in the cars above the doors. The "L" is super easy to use.

Without a doubt, Navy Pier is a MUST do for a first time Chicago visitor...May I ask why you are going to Gino's? There are better pizza places downtown....if you really want to go there, I am pretty sure there is one on Wells that would be closest to Shedd...Shedd is wonderful BTW!!!!

If you have any other questions or I can help anymore, either PM me or reply on here! Have a great trip to my hometown!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Thank you!!!

Gino's is on Dh's list, a must-do for him, not for me :rotfl: I want to go to Eli's but looks like it would be 4 transfers away from where we are staying, too far away for DH, duh.

Plan is Shedd Aquarium on Friday, Gino's that late afternoon, Hancock Tower for drink and view..and I'm scared witless (is that a word even?) of heights and the moving building part..:rolleyes1

Saturday plan is: Field Museum, Navy Pier and maybe boat ride..:)

Sunday morning we're going back home, SW didn't have any later flights out at the time I booked.

I'm sooo excited to go, I think we'll have a great time and believe it or not, no Magnificent mile for us...I'd spend the money for our Disney trip coming up already :rotfl:

Thank you SO much for your reply!!!!

Uno's is the "original" CHicago pizza place in the loop....if you can convince him, also Giordano's is down there too...we like both of them better than Gino's...but you'll have good pizza regardless. The Field Museum is fun, as in Science and Industry. If you take a boat ride, consider the Architectural one....it is really pretty cool. Cab are very readily available too, once you are downtown. Also, when you are at the museum campus, consider stopping by Millenium Park. Pretty nice park in the middle of a downtown like Chicago..has the "famous" big silver bean!

Ok, I need to really try to convince him...I now wish we had a 4 day weekend ;) Soo much to see and do! DD 12 is staying with grandparents while we are gone and she just got picked up. DH and I rarely ever go anywhere by ourselves so I'm excited for that too! I was looking at the architechtual (sp) boatride for sure, oh geez I feel like a kid at Christmas!!! :rotfl: or at the candy store!! :rolleyes1

Thanks again:thumbsup2

Funny thing is that we bought our first camcorder on Black Friday last year and now noone wants to carry it around ...duh..Camera it is!!

I can already see myself having a drink watching the views and people and just taking it all in!!!!

Hope I helped you!! Have a WONDERFUL trip!! There is plenty to see and do! You will not be bored!!!!!

Oh I need to ask you another question please...is Crocs in or out in Chicago? They are the ugliest shoes ever but soooo comfortable for walking!

My DM and I went to Chicago last July, and it was my first time (although we only live 6 hours away). The monorail, I mean L, (one can always dream) was not too bad to navigate. I would definitely do the boat tour! :boat: It was one of my favorite things we did all weekend. We used Wendella and did the combined lake and river tour. I want to say it was just over $20 a person, but it was well worth it. We even learned the real reason it is called the windy city. Have a great time! :cool1:
