Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

Halm looked again at another angle — quickly, of course, because teams are only allotted 30 seconds after a play to either challenge or move on — and saw Lobaton's foot clearly came off the bag while Anthony Rizzo was still holding the tag firmly on Lobaton's...crotch.

I hate that replay has made this sort of thing even possible. I get tired these days of watching fielders hold tags extra long on the off chance that the runner's foot or hand should ever so slightly leave the bag.

well there are a LOT of things that could be different.. for me it is the shift being allowed. Has changed the game.

Absolutely. :) To be honest, I don't even have an issue with replay itself - I like that they can check things like if a ball cleared the wall or hit the line, fair or foul or even if a runner is safe or out. This play wasn't one of those examples, however. The runner was there first - he just unfortunately had his foot slip off the base for a millisecond. To me, like the author of the article mentions, it's not the spirit with which replay was intended, IMO.

Do I think it lost the game for the Nationals? No - there's a whole host of other things. It just was a momentum killer.

Wow, google is now a fortune telling search engine....according to this google has this dated May 5, 2016 (over a year before it was actually typed)...

Well, May 5, 2016 is when this thread was started, so they didn't just pull that date out of a hat.
So, I presume the title of the thread was changed at some point?

Otherwise whoever created the thread was the fortune teller since it's World Series Champs - Defend & D-Peat.
:rotfl2:

I created the thread and YES I knew we would win the World Series and am now a BILLIONAIRE because I put everything I had on the Cubs to win.

*blink blink* What a nice dream ... about being a billionaire LOL.

Must be true...you can afford season tickets. :lmao:

Actually, I thought it was you (and thank you again for inviting me -- hopefully you don't regret it), but obviously the thread name changed at some point.

I suggest only the blue jersey's on elimination or clinch away games from here on out. I want a GIF of JHey grabbing his Cubs patch on his jersey after Harper K'd so bad! The emotion and heart and soul in that moment gave me goosebumps. I actually want to see ALL of those individual reactions again. My DVR had stopped and I didn't notice (can't imagine why:rolleyes1)

Y'all remember this, right?

It was the BlueJays game. Do you remember how it started? Javy, strike 3, missed ball, gets 1st. Inning 5 yesterday he improves it to a double. I shall forever call a play like that the El Mago

I don't think they really got breaks though...the challenges were in their favor because they were the right calls. The umpire at first couldn't see his foot come off the bag because Rizzo's leg was between him and the foot. I was thrilled with Jay's slide into 2nd...I thought initially he was out. Weiters whining about he foul tipped the ball. Well why did you chase after it then? When that didn't work...he hit my mask. Ugh!!! I did notice the umps not giving us strikes again. Seems a consistent theme thus far sadly.

The Cubs did get several breaks. If you don't think they did, I really don't know what game you're watching. Nats got absolutely screwed when Javy hit the catcher's mask. By the letter of the rule, that is suppose to be a dead ball and a strike. In this case, that would have been Strike 3, runners do not advance because the ball is dead. It's funny that that play isn't reviewable but yes, that's the way it goes. Nonetheless, Nats got screwed/hosed on that big time.

Of course, at the same time, Cubs were absolutely screwed/hosed by not being able to play G4 when it was suppose to be played. All in all, things evened up, but to say the Cubs didn't get breaks last night is to not be living in reality.

The Cubs got lots of breaks the Nationals also made lots of mistakes. The game was insane I don’t know that either team really deserved to win. I really feel for National’s fans I have had my heart ripped out by the Cubs enough through the years it sucks.
Not really feeling very confident going into the next series but it’s baseball who knows what will happen impossible to predict.

Because no baseball game that only goes nine innings is supposed to last nearly five hours.
