If you take the Penn. and Ohio Turnpike into Indiana, don't be afraid to get off the turnpike. The rest stops/resturants are all basically the same. And at the end of the day, the bathrooms really get icky. I think they only clean them early morning. My husband didn't want the hassle of paying to get off and starting over. But there really isn't no difference, it equals out the same. I think the Ohio turnpike was around $7.00 and the Penns was around $7.00. Indiana is a major headache coming into Chicago. Be prepared for an hour delay to turn onto I94 into the city of Chicago. It is always backed up. I don't ever think I remember a time when it isn't. Plus it is under construction.
Have fun road trippin bringing your college freshman to school. Is he or she attending the University of Chicago. The campus is in a really nice area, it is near the Science and Industry Museum which is right next to Lake Michigan.
Good luck.
