Just wondering if any of my felllow Disney friends would have some suggestions for me. We are driving our college freshman from Massachusetts to Chicago next weekend. If any of you could share some tips regarding the best routes, places to stay along the way, etc. Our family would greatfully appreciate your input.

I don't know of any places to stay along the way, but can suggest that you visit Navy Pier, the Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science & Industry, Art Institute and Field Museum while you're here. Have a great trip!

If you take the Penn. and Ohio Turnpike into Indiana, don't be afraid to get off the turnpike. The rest stops/resturants are all basically the same. And at the end of the day, the bathrooms really get icky. I think they only clean them early morning. My husband didn't want the hassle of paying to get off and starting over. But there really isn't no difference, it equals out the same. I think the Ohio turnpike was around $7.00 and the Penns was around $7.00. Indiana is a major headache coming into Chicago. Be prepared for an hour delay to turn onto I94 into the city of Chicago. It is always backed up. I don't ever think I remember a time when it isn't. Plus it is under construction.

Have fun road trippin bringing your college freshman to school. Is he or she attending the University of Chicago. The campus is in a really nice area, it is near the Science and Industry Museum which is right next to Lake Michigan.

Good luck.

You have to stop at Millienium Park. Its breathtaking; its on Michigan Ave at Madison Street. What university are you going to; because there is about a 40 mile difference between UofC and NU

Thank you to all who responed with great Chicago tips.
My son will be attending Columbia College (film major). The school is spread out between State St. and Michigan Ave. We plan on arriving at the school next Sunday, with the hope that the traffic won't be quite so bad.
We hope to spend some time at Navy Pier, sample some of Chicago's wonderful food, and perhaps take a side trip to the old Route 66.
Once again, thanks for the help.

Check those city links there, see if there is anything big going on next week (like this week's Sea and Air Show, a traffic nightmare). Again, enjoy, and best wishes for you son, a good school there.

Hey, my DDad teaches Television production at Columbia! :flower: I hope your DS enjoys himself, Chicago is a great city with lots of opportunites. It seems there is always a movie being made somewhere in town. The college is in a great location, near lots of great places to visit. The museums have free days every week so he will be able to see everything, even on a student budget ;)

Have a safe drive!

Dan, thanks for the "City Links" advice...I'll be sure to take a look before we leave.

Rebecca, I just told my DS about your DDad's link to Columbia! DS can't wait to begin this new chapter of his life. He has been packed for weeks, and is very excited about this new city to explore.

Our Disney friends have always been there for us.....thanks a bunch!!!
