Good morning all-
My kids are on spring break this week.

Thanks Slo, geffric, and bunchkin for the good wishes for I and my family's upcoming Hershey Park trip in June :goodvibes I know it isn't Disney, but very close to it in my standards. We will be driving there. Actually my DH says he actually looks forward to driving there and back :confused3 ;) We haven't driven out that way before, so it will hopefully be a pleasant adventure.
We are sooo looking forward to this trip!! I booked a non-Hershey owned hotel for a few nights - about 5 to 10 min from Hershey Park. Got pretty good rates compared to staying at the Hershey-owned hotels, resorts.

Bunchkin- yeah, I have been getting the Hershey chocolate spa email advertisements for awhile. The spa looks nice!

I am very jealous!! I haven't been to Hershey in several years. I grew up in NEPA, so we went to Hershey Park quite a bit. I was in our high school marching band and we won 1st place in the marching division at Music in the Park in 1987!!! (yes, I'm old!!! :rotfl: ) We came in second for concert band. I love Hershey Park. Honestly, I love everything about that area. My grandmother grew up in York, so I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that part of PA. I would love to get back there one of these days. We will be going to PA in September for my cousin's wedding, but we will be about 2 1/2 hours north of Hershey. Have a great time. It's a beautiful drive!!

No reason to be jealous ;). We can't afford Disney and my family and I really didn't go away on vacation last summer or vacay during any spring breaks or anything the past yr or so. HP seemed like it was something a little more affordable in our budget, or at least I think so. I recently bought an Entertainment book for the Hershey/Harrisburg area so we can save money on restaurants, etc. in the area. I and DH are so dutch(as of being frugal) We probably fit right in the Dutch country
Thanks for the good vacation wishes :goodvibes:
They did build up a little at Hershey Park recently. They will be opening a waterpark area and water activities this summer in Hershey Park- called the Boardwalk!

Talking about NE PA,what city/town did you grow up at?
DH and I did honeymoon at the Poconos in 1993.

Hi Everybody out there in Chicagoland! I just want to thank you again for all of the wonderful tips you have given me on looking for a new home out there! we are going to try and go out on Easter Vacation and take a look for ourselves. We have looked at the local crime reports and the schools...they both look pretty good although the schools are pretty new and don't have much of a reputation...iether good or bad. Most shopping areas or malls are about 30 minutes away but that's not too much of a biggy, I'll keep non parishables stored up for the winter as much as I can and there are a few local stores really close by. I have moved quite a lot in my life so I have a general idea of what to look for but thank you for your information...I will be sure to use it!
Thanks again! Helen

You are welcome :goodvibes

Talking about NE PA,what city/town did you grow up at?
DH and I did honeymoon at the Poconos in 1993.

I grew up in a tiny town called Canton. If you know anything about the Little League World Series, you know it's held in Williamsport. My hometown is about 45 miles north of there. We are about 45 miles south of Elmira, NY. We are right up on the border of PA and NY.

The Poconos are beautiful. I have never stayed there, but have driven through alot. When DH and I first started dating, he lived near Philadelphia. It was a 3 1/2 hour drive that took me through the Poconos every other weekend.

If you get into Lancaster, there used to be a restaurant called Good 'N Plenty. It's real Amish home cooking and is awesome!!! The menu changes all the time and it's family style dining. The tables seat about 10-12 and they just fill up the tables. You sit with other people you don't know. I have met some very interesting people and have had some great conversations that way. You pay one flat price and they serve everything that's on the menu. The last time I was there, we had baked ham, fried chicken, succotash, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, salads of all kinds plus pies, pies and more pies - shoefly pie, apple, custard, cherry, berry, strawberry rhubarb, pecan, etc.

Okay, I need to stop thinking about the food!! My grandmother was PA Dutch and knew how to cook. I have the waistline to prove it!! :lmao: However, she has been gone for 17 years now and I miss her and her cooking terribly. I loved the nights she made nothing but apple dumplings for dinner. And her hucklebuck (blueberries to those who don't know what hucklebucks are ;) ) cake was to die for!! I have been trying to master her saltine cracker peanut butter fudge recipe for a couple years now and can't quite get the consistancy the same as her's. Maybe one of these days.

I will stop rambling. I can go on and on sometimes!! :rolleyes1 I think I missed it - when are you going on your trip?

Anything you need to know, just ask. I'm sure someone knows someone who lives somewhere near where you are looking. The crime in the northwestern, western and southwestern burbs is very low. There are only a few hot spots like Elgin, Aurora and inner-Joliet that are high when it comes to crime. Most other places are what I call sub-rural, sort of a mix between suburban and rural areas. That's what my area was like when I first moved out here, but now we are getting big expressways, and a whopper mall about three miles away. So much for the simple life and two lane roads... sigh. They call it progress??

i promised to mail out some brochures and i had to go out saturday for that.
it's not a big deal.

It's a big deal to me. A very much appreciated big deal. :)

tarheelmjfanI was searching on the net Citypass seems to be the most ecomical way to see the city http://www.citypass.com/city/chicago.html or http://www.gochicagocard.com/ I don't get downtown much and if I do I usually go to Navy pier I love to eat a Bubba gump and wander while munching cinnamon almonds :thumbsup2. Navy pier is a great place to walk and walk and walk.

Thanks :thumbsup2 I'll check those sites. Have you eaten at Bubba Gump's at Universal? It wasn't open yet, when we were there last. I'll definitely keep Navy Pier in mind.

Side note...I feel so bad I told my Dear Cousin to post on the DIS (start a thread) and for her first post she stated her son would be turning two on the first day of their trip(thinking this was the age to begin paying). She asked if it would be terrible to not pay yet and the poor girl totally got flamed! She was so sad. I feel so bad and I still can't believe people actually will yell at people on these threads! It surprises me everytime. Instead of telling her that the age to begin paying is actually three they told her she had no morals and that her son would obviously grow up to be a diliquent! YIKES! She deleted the post best she could to put a stop to the madness!

You should give your cousin a crash course on "Posting on the DIS" immediately. Be sure to add all the hot topics. :scared1: Unfortunately, there are some on here who are overly passionate about their opinions on things that aren't directly related to them at all. I just don't get it. :sad2:

Tarheel- sightseeing in Chicago: maybe take in a Wendella boat ride that tours the Chicago river, the lock system, and the lake.Tour the Sears tower or Hancock building. Of course, the museums:Science and Industry, Field Museum. Art Institute. Shopping on Michigan Ave.

Please, tell me more about going through the locks. I hadn't read about those yet. We'd love to do that!!!

Hey, I've eaten there before. It was a long time ago, but I still remember it. I think it's one of those places you'd never forget. YUM!!!

geffric,
I can totally sympathize with the teens. Our son started high school this year. My how they change. :sad2:

slo
You seem to be full of energy. Care to share your secret? :teeth:

So much for the simple life and two lane roads... sigh. They call it progress??

:goodvibes I just had to laugh at that....we don't call it progress, we just call it Chicago coming out our way. :lmao:

My DH has made those comments before but then one of our local columnists did a blurb on it & it was *SOOO* true & funny. Literally about the 2 lane highway we had that is now completely commercially built up 4-lane bumper to bumper traffic, etc... How we were never a suburb of Chicago but Chicago came out to us (I don't think we really are officially a suburb. I never could figure that one out for sure since I was never 100% of the definition. Just always close enough to enjoy the city but far enough away that we could see actual cornfields, although those are getting fewer & fewer where we are).

Morning all! :sunny: I changed my ticker I just realized yesterday it was getting longer instead of shorter. :rotfl:

Rose Congrat's on your vac plans.:thumbsup2 I want to take a trip there too. The thought of walking up to smells of chocolate that's my idea of heaven:cloud9:

Bunchkin In case I forget have a great time visiting with Tony's family. I hope his Mom is doing a little better.

Slo What is Stephanie planning to do on her spring break? Alex is spending time hanging with Dad and then rest of the time with my neighbor. It's good to have friends that don't work and are willing to lug your child along with theirs

For those that asked, Stephanie and I aren't doing to much while she is on spring break. Yesterday I worked, so the girls were at my mom's. Today, I invited Stephanie's twin friends to come over in the afternoon - she is SO EXCITED about this:hyper: . I have never invited any of her friends over before, so this will be fun for her. Then one day this week we are going to need to get to the mall to see the Easter Bunny (he better be here by now  )

This morning Stephanie gets to go to physical therapy with me - she's excited to see where I go. The physical therapists already told me that she's going to put Stephanie to work - she'll love that!!!!:teeth:

geffric - I'm glad the boys liked the Dells. My brother and his wife are moving back from there tomorrow.
**I'm sorry work is so :headache: right now. Sending some pixie dust your way for it to get easier soon. :wizard:

Bunchkin - I want to do that spa package too at Hershey Park  The smell of it would be heavenly.:goodvibes

Sam - I'm sorry your day Sunday was ruined by a migraine:guilty: . I get those too, and they are horrible. Have you tried Excedrin Migraine for those headaches? They don't take the headache away for me, but they do make it more easy to deal with.

Rose - I'm really looking forward to your trip report when you come back:) . I've never known anyone to go to Hershey Park, so it'll be fun to read how your vacation was.

mvazul - I looked at your website, and you do beautiful work :goodvibes You will have a lot of success ::yes::

Helen - I can't remember, what area are you looking to move too  (I know you already said, but I forgot)

Mac - Thanks for the listings!!!! :teeth:

tarheel - If you saw me at about 8pm you wouldn't think I have a lot of energy anymore:rolleyes: I actually do have alot of energy in the morning and daytime, but when the sun sets, so does my energy level.

Becky - :wave2:

HERSEY - I hope Alex has a nice time with his day :goodvibes

Well, I gotta get myself going - I have a mountain of laundry to fold.
Have a good day today everyone!!

Hi Slo....I was talking about moving around Huntley. We've been trying to find places that are somewhat close to Rolling Meadows but doesn't cost too much!:thumbsup2 we are also looking at Hampshire but it seems a little small for my tastes! Hopefully in the next few weeks we will be able to make a weekend trip out there to look at some models. Thank you for asking!
So, How did your play day go with the twins? We haven't gotten the Easter Bunny out here yet and my kids don't get out of school until the Friday before Easter. I have Boy/Girl twins who are going to be 14 in May and a 19 year old boy.
You have a great day! Helen

Good morning all-

I had half a post typed out and I lost it, just went poof! So retyping my post.

Slo- How's the physical therapy going for your knee? Does it seem to be working? Hope Stephanie has fun working side by side with the PT this morning :) Hope you and Steph have fun with the playdate with the twins today. Hopefully no double trouble with the twins today. j/k ;)

Tarheel- here's the website for the Wendella boat tours in Chicago.
http://www.wendellaboats.com
On their website, the boat tours start in a few days(end of March). They only list the tours right now til end of April. You will have to go back to the website in a month or so to get the summer schedule tour times.
The Chicago River and lake tour combined is a 90-minute tour. That's the one
with going thru the Chicago lock system. It isn't a big deal with hte lock system, just the water rises up a few feet before the boat goes onto Lake Michigan. It's more of the historical aspect the tour guide talks about.
I also noticed on the website just now that they will be having wine tasting boat tours. Those tours seem to be in the evenings. That must be new, haven't seen it on their website before.

Hersey- Thanks for the well wishes for my upcoming trip :) Yes, anything chocolate is up my alley too!
Oh, how did your school fun fair go? Did you have it yet? Is Alex on spring break this week?

mvazul- I tried to look up your town you grew up- Canton, PA, and I couldn't find it on the map. I'll have to try a different PA map.
Sounds like you are a little homesick for PA ;) If I happen to go to Lancaster,PA, I'll have to look for GoodnPlenty restaurant.
How was your birthday on Saturday? Did you have your birthday lunch or dinner at the Cheesecake Factory?

Mac-thanks for the tv listings :thumbsup2

Hi to all :wave2:

Good Morning Everyone!!! :wave2:

I have way too much to do today!! :headache:
And I got very little sleep last night, same for DH!! :headache: :headache:
DH got a flat tire on the way to the train station this morning! :headache:
And I just got off the phone with my mom who is always..... :headache: !!!

So it's turning out to be a GREAT day!!! {read that with a slight touch of sarcasm!!}

But I digress!!! ;)

slo I wonder what Stephanie will get to do at PT?
There was several times I had to take Hunter with me to PT. He kept himself amused with a backpack full of stuff...and snacks! :)

Sam Hope your head is feeling better today!! :goodvibes

Hersey I don't know how Tony's mom is doing currently. She called on Sunday but no one was home. And Tony ALWAYS forgets to call her. Usually I end up doing it! He's a bad son!! ;) :rotfl:

I should run!!! I need to drive all over the Chicagoland area today!! :faint:

Slo: Thanks for the tip on the migraine medicine. I really didn't have anything besides Motrin and Ecotrin (aspirin with a coating) around the house. The Motrin finally knocked it down enough to be livable, but I really was still feeling its effects yesterday. Sort of hazy and I felt slightly "out of it" all day. I think I will pick up some of that Excedrin Migraine to have them handy. I also need some Excedrin Nighttime too. I take that with on Disney vacations because I tend to be sore at the end of a long day and usually too wound up to go to sleep. That knocks me out and I wake up feeling really good. So, I'll be making a pit stop on the way home at the Walgreens.

I could never do a spa treatment in Hershey PA. I'd embarrass myself by trying to lick off the scrubs or whatever they use. :rotfl:

Well, that's about it for now. I hope everyone is going to enjoy our last day of decent weather. Seems like there's a lot of rain in the forecast for the rest of the week.

Hey, who's just dying for March 30th to go see The Robinson's in 3D? :3dglasses And, if you bring your ticket stubs from the movie to the Disney store, you get a certain amount off of MTR merchandise, I think they said 20%!! But, you have to see the movie this weekend.

I love the Dinosaur, Tiny. Cause I have a big head and little arms... :lmao:

Good morning, everyone!!

I finally have internet access at work! I can only be on-line while the baby is sleeping, but she is still very tiny and taking alot of naps these days.

I want to thank all of you for the wonderful birthday wishes. I had a great day. I wanted to sleep in, but that didn't happen. DD5 woke me up at 7:15 by jumoing up and down on the bed yelling, "Happy birthday, Mama!! Happy birthday, Mama!! Get up....it's your birthday!!!" Before I was able to even see, she insisted I needed to open my presents. She made three drawings for me - Cinderella with a flower; a birthday cake; and a box. She also picked out a card with Mickey Mouse on it. The best part? She wrote her own name!! And on the front of the envelope, she wrote To Momma by herself!! DH said he told her what letters to write and she did it.

Then, she insisted DS12 bring up his gift. He picked out a very nice card and mad a small dish to keep my coins in. He painted it yellow and it was still a bit sticky!! ;) When I went downstairs to take a shower, there was a huge bouquet of multi-colored roses. MIL had taken them shopping the day before and they decided to get me flowers. I can't tell you how nice it is to wake up every morning and see fresh roses next to my bed!

In the afternoon we headed downtown. We were going to go to Bennigan's, but saw Pizzeria Due's. DH hadn't been there in years and I had never been. We decided to do that for lunch instead. I am so glad we did. It was delicious. DH said it restored his faith in pizza!! :lmao: He said he knew there was a problem when he was beginning to think Pizza Hut was good!

After lunch we walked to Michigan Ave. I wanted to go to the Disney Store. I have been on a mission to find Disney lanyards for the kids' pins since our trip in January. I forgot to pick up a couple while we were there. Unfortunately, they didn't have any. They had pins but no lanyards. So my search continues. However, we did find an Easter dress for DD. It is a sundress with yellow flowers and Belle all over it. It's adorable. Of course, she had to have the accessories - a very cute purse and a headband. DS got a new Peter Pan and Hook shirt. DH found a nice 3-buttoned, collared POTC shirt. I got a new Mickey mug. Since the mugs were 2 for $12, DH got a Tigger mug, too.

Then, we stopped at Trader Joe's. DH found a few bottles of wine at unbelievably low prices. We also picked up my birthday pie - Mud Pie. Yummmm! In the evening, we went to see a movie. I wante dto see Reign Over Me, but it wasn't playing in the theater we went to. So, we saw Ghost Rider instead. It was actually much better than we had thought it would be. I normally don't care for those types of movies, but I found it was done pretty well.

My bosses gave me a very nice glass picture frame. They said they thought I could put a picture from our Disney trip in it. They also gave me a $50 gift card to the movies (which I forgot to take with us :rolleyes1 ). I thought that was so nice of them. I honestly didn't expect it at all. I have only been working for them just about a week and a half. They are great people to work for.

When all was said and done, I had a very good day.

Again, thank you for all of the birthday wishes!! There are truly some wonderful people here on the DIS!! :grouphug:

I also need some Excedrin Nighttime too. I take that with on Disney vacations because I tend to be sore at the end of a long day and usually too wound up to go to sleep. That knocks me out and I wake up feeling really good. So, I'll be making a pit stop on the way home at the Walgreens.

Oh, that's a great idea!!! I too can never get to sleep!! It's like I'm a wind up doll!!

Sam said:

The special I watched on the Travel Channel about Hershey park said that the scrubs and chocolate bubble baths they have are NOT tasty!!! :rotfl: They've had people try to eat it and they gag!! :lmao:

Thank you so much!! I really hope I get some work and it picks up for me. Photography is my passion. I love helping create memories for other families!!

Thanks, again!!:flower3:

Ok, Rolling Meadows :)
I live in Schaumburg. I do know what you mean as of housing prices are high in the northwestern burbs :sad2:
Huntley is a half hour to 45 min. drive on the highway( I 90) from Schaumburg. Probably over an hour drive if you took regular streets, this is in good weather.
Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates are very metropolitan, as of very built up as of housing, traffic, shopping, etc.
I have a freind that lives in Lake Zurich,Il. He commutes to Rolling Meadows from Lake Zurich. Takes about a half-hour drive each way.
Just giving you info from out this way :)
