I just happened upon this thread, how great to see all the Northern IL/Chicago Diser's.
Well we are enjoying about 8 inches of snow right now, the kids are happy NO SCHOOL, woo-hoo Snow Day!!!

Chrissy got her wish this morning- NO SCHOOL! Yea for the kids, but bummer for me She really did not want school and was asking me all yest. afternoon and evening when is the snow supposed to start
Matthew actually wanted to be at school today. It was supposed to be hot lunch day today (on Fridays). He's bummed no hot lunch at school today.
It snowed about 3 inches by me so far and also rain and sleet. They haven't even plowed here yet, tho I hear the plows in the distance. Dh needs to leave soon and brave the weather to get to work.

SNOW DAY .. no school for both kids... elem school district and high school are both closed... there was a chance that one would have a snow day and the other would go to school but at least they both have a snow day..


SLO they are saying on the TV weather that you are getting rain and not much snow if any, we are supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow as we are northwest. Yes i am working form home today.. no point in venturing out in this weather..

Jedi - Did the libraray call you? Are you gonna have a snow day too?

Just got a call from the library that we're closed!!!!

Geez, I was just on my way out of the door, too! Why'd they wait so long? I almost caught an earlier bus, too!!! Good thing I was debating it and decided I'd try to drive

VickynMickey -- Welcome to our group.

It is definitely nasty out today as OUR school closed too & usually ours is the last to close in the tri-cities. I actually didn't believe the radio when I heard our district number so I had to flip on the news to watch the name scroll by at the bottom to make sure I wasn't losing it.

My DD doesn't even KNOW yet, she's still sleeping. I didn't bother to wake her up. My poor DH went out though, hopefully he made it fine. At least Randall road is a little better now that it's built up rather than when it was all cornfields and literally would have blowing snow drifting all over the place. The buildings block a lot of that now.

Although it will be nice that I get to be a bum today since we aren't going anywhere.

Once all the kiddos are up, etc... I do have to go shovel though and find the driveway that I know was there last night. Just to shovel it again later since it's still snowing.

My friend I was supposed to me called me last night and decided to cancel once the freezing rain stopped. It was a good thing. I'm bummed we won't be able to meet up but it's for the best as it would be dangerous for driving in this weather if you don't have to.

It's always so interesting when we all check in about the weather. It amazes me how different it can be for all of us.

The snow started here now - big, beautiful flakes.

Kevin and I are venturing out for our annual power Christmas shopping day - I love this day!!!! With this weather, we are hoping for low crowds at the mall (fingers crossed).

snow sucks..............we are buried.
no busses or schools today.

no streets plowed yet..........too much high wind and the snow is coming down quite fast. since we are between the 2 cities that are really getting hit, we are gettingn it from both sides.

i just heard mchenry might get 16 inches......

now i will go back and read the last 2 pages of what is happening here.
son has been on the computer to catch up with friends and life so i have not been on much.

watch me go back and read you all don't have snow...........

slo, i figured you would only get a dusting if that from this storm.
i have been watching the weather channel and i think they got it quite on the mark at this time.

enjoy the "nice" weather while you can.
we can make you feel better and cry over our weather

i had certain errands to do today but, it's not going to happen.
was supposed to fax in info to american airlines to request a refund but that will have to wait until saturday now.
don't know if mail box etc will open today as no plows are out anywhere in our city yet.

this is a good day to be productive in the house.
now, i just have to convince myself that !!

Hello again. I back home they closed the office. I debated about 3x during my "normal" 10 minute drive, about turning around. But as luck would have it I couldn't find any place unplowed to turn around. I got stuck for about 15 minutes leaving work because how the big plow dump the snow. Good thing I listened well to my Dad's lessons on winter driving. I'm eating my power breakfast of pie. Too get pumped for shoveling Yeh shovelling. Don't tell Alex.

Dh just called and he made it safely to work. He almost turned around b/c he couldn't see, some of the roads by us were white outs. Once he got on the highway, it was much better.
to all today that have to brave the weather to get to work, etc.

Good Morning All You Little Snow Bunnies!
Crazy isn't it! I tell ya, you always love the snow more when you don't have to go into it! My DD is so excited she was up at 6:30 AM asking when she could go sledding. My parents' flight was canceled for today so they were bummed but they let them reschedule(NO CHARGE) for Sunday. They were supposed to be in Naples, FL by now. I don't think it was looking good for our DIS friends who needed to get out. The bummer is it is in the 80's in Florida right now!!! At least the airlines didn't wait for people to get to the airport first and then cancel!

My DH is home and going to work tonight so he is out plowing. We are on the border of the city so we got a lot os snow but not as much as some of you. I knew Slo was going to be missed if the weathman was right (for a change).
JEDI...312 nothing else will do!
OK they changed mine to 773 but I am still in Chicago!

Hang in there everyone! Don't over do it with shoveling if that's what you decide to do! It can be very dangerous if your body isn't ready for it!

Thanks for the wave KIM. I got the 6:30 wake up call (twice!!!) that school was closed. We wouldn't have been going anyway though. Mrs. N told me that the principal NEVER closes school for snow!

Let's see..... I can go outside later and have fun in the snow and mess around on the computer all day or I can clean the house, do laundry and get the Christmas decorations finished!! HMMMMMM...I wonder what I'll pick!!!!

Does any of you have the WDW Christmas village?
I have the WDW Magic Kingdom Christmas village and have a question. I feel that my Cinderella's castle does NOT light up as much as the other pieces. Do you find this to be true with yours? Also, I have the Castle, Casey's Corner, the Firehouse and the Train station. Am I missing any pieces? If so where do I find them?

Happy snow day! The school where my son teaches closed today, they hardly *ever* close, that was kind of a clue how bad it was this morning. Mark was off and took almost two hours to shovel our driveway/front porch area. He also had to dig our inflatable Mickey out from the snow mound! I called in to work (felt a bit quilty about it, but after how bad it looked out there, I am very glad I am inside today!)

MAC...I am so happy your son is home! I know that you will cherish the time you can spend with him. I wish you lots of special moments.

LEIGH..thank you so much for the heads up on the skating programs. I have a recording of one of them, and the recorder is set up for tonight's Ice Wars broadcast (I am especially curious how that is going to be on tv since we saw it live).

DEBBIE...I think you'll pick cleaning the house and doing the laundry...NOT.

SLO...Thanksgiving was okay...I was really happy to have Christopher home for a few days, but it's always hard when he goes back to school. Is the snow falling still by you?

I think I finally have my driveway cleaned the way I like. The village can't dump anymore ice boulders at the end of my drive either the street is finally clean.

The house smells good since I'm cooking a pot roast

Me...we have our Nativity set outside but I accidently put Joseph & Mary the wrong way...I knew something "didn't look right" but couldn't figure it out. It's a set I got last year from someone who got a newer set, so this is the first year I put them out & hadn't seen them displayed before.

Yesterday DH said to me you know you've got them wrong, I asked why & he said they are looking away from each other. I just laughed and said "They had a fight"

We never got them changed around and now they are buried so I guess they will have to stay mad at each other for a while.

Other than that nothing is done. I know the kids keep asking to get the stuff down from the attic but DH hasn't had time and I'm too short to even attempt to get to the attic the way it is set up in this house. I did it once and it was a feat to behold.

Hi all!!

Lots of ice and then snow my me too!

All the school AROUND us closed except out district!!! Their snow hot line that I called this morning said that there was school as normal but if you choose to keep the kids home for safety that it would be fine. And that if you wanted to drive your kids in you could. Well thanks for the permission to keep my kids home ya big egg heads!!!!
So both kids didn't go in to school!

We did Christmas crafts, made English muffin pizzas for lunch and decorated the living room tree some more. And we played a lot of Christmas music! Then I powered cleaned the 1st floor of the house.

DH said no shoveling for me today. He's worried the strenuous work would set off my heart. (It's still acting up once in a while. ) So he's got a lot of work ahead of him.

slo Hope you and Kevin had lots of fun shopping today! Did you get a lot of gifts??

Donna I don't blame you for not going into work. Too icy!

Kim So sorry to hear about your job. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you can find something new with a good schedule in the new year!!

our snow finally stopped at 1ish today.

it took from then until 4:35 for me to shovel...........

my wrists are killing me ........and i know the back will feel yuck once i completely thaw out.


city finally came and plowed our street at 5:15. now i have to redo the end of the drive.....it's full of ice chunks now.



first snow and already i am sick of it.

how many iinches did you all get in the city?
