OK, OH came home yesterday with the great news that he's told his work he will be off the first week back in January, so our holiday has officially been moved forward a month to make the most of seeing some christmas festivities   :santa: Thank you all who kept your fingers crossed :thumbsup2

BUT now I have a dilema of which hotel. We both agreed last time that the Cheyenne was great and the best for the kids and that when we went back that would be where we stay, but as it's going to be christmas I'm EXTREMELY tempted to go for the Sequoia Lodge, just think it would have an amazing feel at christmas time and that it would be lovely to warm ourselves by the log fire after a long cold day at the parks. It was also discussed on here yesterday, so I know I'm not the only one that thinks so.

Has anyone stayed at the Cheyenne at christmastime? What's it like? Is it worth upgrading to the Sequoia? Please discuss.

I was tempted to go for DLH but I asked oh and he said it looks too TACKY?!?!?! Broke my heart that did

I'm staying at the SL as ive been told its the most Christmassy etc. Plus i want my hot chocolate by a nice hot fire lol.

I can see SL would be lovely at Christmas, yes (the whole going outside to get from bar to bed would be a pain, though!)

DLH tacky???!

Er, no.

If staying at the SL i would book a montana room so you dont have to go outside to get to the bar.

I'd personally go for the Cheyenne. Mainly becasue I haven't stayed there but I've stayed at the Sequoia and I really wanted to be a Cowboy when I was little.

I'd go for SL, i've stayed at both SL in June and Cheyenne over NYE. There both bery nice hotels for the xmas season but i would def go for SL if it was me, it just has that little something extra that makes me feel like it would be wonderful at xmas. Cheyenne was lovely but i think the layout of the buildings gives your more of a chalet feel then a hotel.

I'd choose the SL out of these two. I went during christmas season a couple of years a go and it was amazing. The only other place i felt such a feeling liek that was when I stayed in a Laskeside NY room, where we were in the very centre at the front overlooking the ice rink. It was really nice to stand there and see the lake and NPB with the rink and music from our room. From what i've heard these rooms are now suites though.

when we went in December 05 we stayed at the Cheyenne and I have to admit it was lovely, it felt quite rustic and all the decorations looked and felt lovely ... it had a charming feel to it, perhaps not like a big fire, etc but to be honest we never really spend that long in the hotel. For me I prefer the Cheyenne, I like the way it looks and feels and it did look pretty with a big tree and wreaths, etc but I also think I'm influenced *** I just love the whole cowboy thing :)

Dont forget you can go into any hotel to the bar etc even if not staying there so you could stay at Cheyenne and go into Sequoia every evening to sit in front of the fire - the only problem with this is you need to go back into the cold again afterwards.
If you get chance try and go into DLH - the bar, restaurants and shops are up the stairs- its lovely inside definitely not tacky

Thanks everyone. You've all been a fantastic help. I think I'm going to go for the Sequoia.

We all absolutely loved the Cheyenne and the cowboy theme is brilliant and we will definitely be there again, whereas I don't think I would "normally" be tempted with the Sequoia, the only reason for me swaying is because it's christmas and as I'll probably not be back at christmas time I think I may as well go for it.

The only thing that might change my mind is a christmas tree. Someone said there's a tree at the Cheyenne, is that inside or outside and could someone confirm that there's a tree at the Sequoia too? Because it just wouldn't be christmas without a tree.

Thanks again everyone

They put a huge christmas tree in every hotel lobby

Also the SL looks absolutely amazing all dressed up for christmas. I would show you some photos but an unfortunate accident meant they have all gone :( But take my word when I say its lovely!

Awwww thank you guys, I can't wait now :) So sorry to hear about your photo's squizz, I know how you feel, I thought I'd lost all my photo's when I got a virus on my computer a few months ago and I was heartbroken.

Does anyone else have any photo's of any of the hotels at christmas?

There is definitely at least one Christmas tree at Sequoia Lodge - I've got a photo of it somewhere! I agree that the Cheyenne is a really fun hotel, but I see that your visit there was during the summer. One thing that I don't particularly like about staying at either the Cheyenne or Santa Fe in the winter, is that if the weather is awful you have to walk outside from your room to the main areas. If you pay the small supplement for a Montana room at SL that won't be a problem.

There not wonderful pics but all i could find:-
