We've never considered staying at the Davy Crockett Ranch before, we've enjoyed staying onsite and didn't really want to stay away from the main resort, but as my sister might be coming with us next time we go, we've been looking at the various options available and have narrowed it down to 2 rooms at the Cheyenne or one at the Davy Crocket Ranch.

We've stayed at the Cheyenne before and absolutely loved it, so know most of the stuff about there, but was just wondering what we'd miss or have extra if we stayed at DCR. Do you still get EMH? GMFL Breakfast? Anything else you can think of that might help me decide? We know we'd need our own transport, but don't know much else.

Also has anyone ever stayed at both? Which did you prefer?

Anything else anyone thinks might be important when making a decision?

Thanks in advance for any help ;)

We've stayed at both and liked both.

At DCR you will get a lovely pool (probably the nicest of all the hotels) which you wont get at Cheyenne

You still get EMH but dont get GMF. However you can have a nice relaxing breakfast in the cabin as you collect the supplies and eat it when you want it - you dont have to book in advance.

The only problem with DCR is really you all need to go into the park together and leave together unless you have more than one car. When we went with our older DS we considered staying here but decided we would be better on site incase he didnt want to come in for EMH with us or stay as long then he could walk in to meet us.

We have stayed at both and enjoyed them:)
As both are Disney you get access to the usual on-site benefits -hotel ID, purchased delivered to resort, EMH, free parking.
Now the differences. You can walk or get. A shuttle bus from Cheyenne. DCR car is your only option.
Both have bike hire and pony rides.
Only DCR has a pool - IMHO the best at DLP.
Cheyenne is continential buffet breakfast or GMFB. DCR is you collect breakfast box from the hut at the end of your trail. More than enough food for a snack later. Have a look at FAQ.
Hope this helps.
For space and amenitity DCR gets our vote :)

EMH is extra magic hours - where guests staying in a disney hotel can get into the parks 2 hours earlier - as DCR is a disney hotel this is available

GMF is Good Morning Fantasyland breakfast - guests of certain disney hotels can have breakfast in the parks instead of their hotel but DCR is not one of these hotels

Thanks everyone for all your helpful information.

Can anyone tell me where you park when you get to DLP? I thought it was at NYH but OH says that the car park there isn't that big. Is there another car park or what happens if the car park is full?

There is a carpark specifically for DLP however if you have dream APs you can park in the hotel car parks which is why you have heard people (including us) talk about parking at HNY

Ah right OK thanks, makes more sense now. Where abouts is the main DLP car park?

We've stayed twice at DCR and enjoyed it both times - the kids had a bit more space in the cabin than they would in a hotel room, the pool was good (if a little chilly) and there were still characters on-site. The drive barely took 5 minutes on most days, although one day (a Saturday IIRC) there was a traffic jam into the park and it took a wee while to get through.
