My husband is having chest pains, but they aren't the garden variety. He says he feels a vibration, and then it feels like something is inflating. He says it comes about every 20 minutes, not associated with eating or anything.

Any ideas? He's 33 and a smoker, not overweight but not in great shape either. Couldn't get much info on WebMD.

Your husband is having chest pains and your posting on the Dis asking our opinions? :confused3

Try your Doctor. Try the ER. Chest pains shouldn't be ignored. JMHO.

Not to be an alarmist, but I would get him to the hospital.

It could be lots of things, but chest pains are NOT something to mess around with. My Dad and Uncle both misread heart attack symptoms.

Get him checked out and hopefully it is nothing.

Yes. What's wrong with that? I'm home, and he's here, and he's not incapacitated. I didn't need to be snapped at like that.

in the kindest way i could possibly say this, i would get him to the hospital. it might turn out to be nothing, but it doesn't hurt to be safe about it. i hope that he's fine.

I agree completely. No wonder you're Prime Minister, Spam. You're quite diplomatic.

I have to agree with zakatak. My father died at the age of 35 from a massive heart attack. :sad1: Chest pains should never be ignored!!!!

totally agree

My dad died of a massive heart attack young also (48), get him to the ER...do not take any chances with chest pains. Time is of the essence if it is cardiac related.

I hope that it is nothing, please keep us updated.

I agree, son of a paramedic/FF here. Never downplay chest pain, even if young. A trip to the ER can be a big relief, or the beginning of stay at the hospital. Not good to second guess. My best.

Worth repeating. And btw, chest pain that is cardiac related can present itself in MANY different ways, it can be crushing, it can be minor, it can be discomfort, it can be pressure. It can be in the neck, arms, shoulders, abdomen. There really is no garden variety for the layman. Let a doctor decide!

Sending my best wishes your way!

If you are not on your way, go! I've been on both sides in the ambulance (worker and patient) for this. Mine turned out not to be my heart but a side effect of a new med which they got me off pronto. That med (Baycol) was pulled by the FDA 2 weeks after my episode.

Me too, I was on a beta blocker for a heart arrhythmia that made me experience a bronchi-spasm...felt like chest pain and I thought I was having a heart attack. I just needed a med change. I was 36 yo. Sure can be very scary stuff.

I'll add, about 2 years ago, I awakened in the AM, chest pains, a 'not good feeling'. I had recently started Celebrex at the time (long before the current knowledge on those drugs). I went to the ER, lots of examines, cardio, CT, a few others. They found nothing, released me. I guess I was okay. But I did get checked.

As a thought back, I may have had probelms with the drug, though they found none. I was switched to Bextra, then Vioxx, now take Alleve.

Yep, exactly what you and anyone should do...and if it had been cardiac related, it would have been what saved your life.

I hope the Op is at the hospital and that all is well.

Don't mess around with any type of chest pain. DH died from a massive heart attack at 38. Also had a coworker who was a nurse and thought she was having a heart attack. Hers turned out to be a GI problem.

Take him to the ER...better to be safe than sorry. Hope it works out okay!!!

I don't think anybody is snapping - it is just that at the first sign of chest pain, one should be on their way to the ER. The sooner you get to the ER, the less damage to the heart muscle if it is cardiac related.

Now, not to be alarmist, but even mild symptoms can be a very massive heart attack. My father (63) was having mild chest pains. He also was not incapacitated. In fact he drove home from work, had dinner and then sat around the house, basically ignoring the symptoms because they weren't very severe. 8 hours later, he finally went to the ER. Massive heart attack that he died from.

It is very important that you go to the ER and check things out. Nobody will think it silly.

Good luck and keeping our fingers crossed it is just a bad case of gas!

And just to throw this in--my dad died of "indigestion"(actually a massive heart attack.) The thing is this event was preceded by many , little piddly events, mostly heartburn-like pain. So always said he had indigestion. And one day it killed him.

In the last 2 years my DH has gone from a vital, young 47yo man to a weak, fragile old man due to heart disease. He hever smoked or drank, was at appropriate weight, & worked out. His chest pain was not debilitating,it never "radiated" anywhere. It was very occasional and always went away. Now he has major cardiomyopathy and takes 14 drugs every day--that's about 40 pills, ladies. He will never be the same.

In my DH case, nothing could have prevented his problem. However, we could have been proactive and managed it better. PLEASE, do not ignore chest pain just because it isn't "severe" enough. Chest pain is not normal and must always be checked out.
