Chefs de France

I hear people talk about how good Le Cellier is, I've never been so I can't comment. What about Chefs de France? Is it real French food, or is it Americanized French food? I've never had French food so I wouldn't know if it's real or not. I figured it was about time I tried some.

What is your favorite item on the menu? Why?
What is your least favorite item? Why?

Since I've never been to France I can't compare but we really liked it. We went for lunch a couple of months ago. Dh had the cheese plate for his appy and I had the escargot. Both were great. I love escargot and it came out hot and was delish! I swear had I no manners I would have licked the bowl clean. LOL

We both had the macaroni & cheese (Gratin de macaroni) for our entree which was also very good! I was skeptical since I had heard the cheese was like a Swiss cheese which I'm not fond of but I was pleasantly surprised.

Disney isn't somewhere to eat if you're looking for authentic. I consider any ethnic cuisine restaurant at Disney to be somewhat 'dumbed-down' and Americanized. That does not, however, mean the food is bad. It's just not really like the real thing.

The food at Les Chefs is real in terms of the actual items used, but the preparation is poor and they don't use the same quality of ingredients as you would find in most French cafes. I know a lot of people rave about Les Chefs, but I found it sub-par compared to most Disney restaurants. It was like a frozen boxed entree quality meal to me - at 20 times the price.

I think I should probably disclose the fact that I lived in France for a year, so my standards are higher than most peoples when it comes to French cuisine.

I have to disagree with the above post. I have never been disappointed with the food at Chefs de France. Although the food is dumbed down, I've never felt a lack of preparation and care to exist in the kitchen.

As for the food being sub-par when compared to food at other Disney restaurants, I have to imagine that that comment refers to signature restaurants. Because I find the CHefs de France is among the greatest choices for single ticket options on the DDP.

I thought it was overpriced for the quality of the food (although that pretty much describes most restaurants at WDW IMO). At the end of the meal I thought, "We paid how much for that?" I have never been to France, but have been to French restaurants in Montreal, and Chefs de France didn't seem to use the same quality of ingredients.

If you are lookingfor authentic anything you don't go to a themepark..That said , I think Disney does a pretty decent job at its World Showcase restaurants.We LOVE chefs de France and go back often.

My girlfriend and I don't like Le Cellier. We find that it is just a small notch above places like Outback Steakhouse or other chain steak houses.

We both really enjoy Les Chef's. As a previous poster said the Mac N' Cheese is very good. The beef tenderloin is better than any steak of Le Cellier, very tastey and tender enough to cut with a butter knife. On our last visit I really enjoyed the seafood skewer (when it got to the table I thought "This is it?" but it was fresh, delish and rather filling).

Chefs is okay but the food there didn't seem to be similar to the food we ate at cafes in Paris. Many people on the dis rave about the onion soup but it doesn't compare favorably to the soup in France, it is similar to Red Robin's.

I enjoy lunch at Chefs more than dinner. My favorite the chevre and tomato flatbread.

We like it for lunch. We were introduced by friends who live there to the lunch Prix Fixe menu. Three courses for $20! And they take DVC discount of 20%, so it's $16 each when we go. We're doing it again next week!

Chefs de France is VERy authentic. Their soupe a loignon gratinee is amazing! So is their Ratatouille and I do not normally eat eggplant.

The roasted chicken and braised shortribs are also very good and taste like you are eating something Julia Child cooked! I put off eating there for a long time and now it has become a fave.

the short ribs on the prix fixe menu is wonderful. My DH enjoys the salmon. Service is top-notch. Give it a try!

The food at Les Chefs is somewhat Americanized french food, it's good, not great but then again I am French. Lunch is definitely better than dinner! My biggest gripe w/ Les Chefs is the lack of menu choices, Le Bistro de Paris, upstairs has a much better menu, in my opinion.

Went there for lunch a few days ago. Ordered the grilled ham and chesse sandwich with a greensalad. The food came five minutes after we ordered. The sandwich was obviously pre made and the salad was warm. never again. But i did see Remy he was great!

Their duck entree & hot apple filled crepes with ice cream is amazing!!!

I also enjoy the mac n cheese.

Alot to think about here, thanks guys. Since a true French person chimed in and said Bistro was better I might look again at my selection. I do this too much somebody stop me, I get my ressies then I question them. I have to stop obsessing, my choices are fine. But then again maybe not. yes they are, no they're not. Arggggggggggggggg!!!

At least I know it's not a terrible place, no one said they hated it. Thanks everyone.

We love Chefs de France, but prefer lunch there to dinner. The menu is almost the same and much more reasonably priced. The escargots are garlicky and delicious, and as a PP said, I could lick the dish if it weren't bad manners (even in France ). The tomato and chevre flatbread is delicious. The salade nicoise used to be better because they used to use fresh tuna, but is still good. The crepe is very good and the gratin de macaroni is wonderful. I think they use gruyere cheese. Profiteroles for dessert are a must, as is plenty of wine. The last time we were there, Chef Remy visitied our table and that was a nice surprise. The servers have always been friendly and we've enjoyed talking with them. I'm looking forward to our lunch there in just a few weeks!

By far... just horrible. I was so dissapointed, as Chefs was a place I had eaten at as a child and LOVED. I agree with PPs who have said that ingredient quality is poor. It really is. I had short ribs and it seemed as though the mushrooms in the dish were out of a can! Escargot was good, but most things are when drenched in garlic butter. My husband had a flatbread that was quite similar to one we buy frozen at Trader Joe's (not kidding). My husband and I were just laughing about how bad it all really was. Seriously. We ate at much better places.

If you're paying OOP either way, Bistro is considerably more expensive than Chefs...averaged prices upstairs vs. downstairs: apps $14 vs. $8 in Chefs, entrees $37 at Bistro vs. $27 at Chefs, and desserts at the Bistro are $11 vs. $7.25 downstairs.

If you choose the Prix Fixe selection upstairs it's $54 per person versus $37 downstairs at Chefs.

So it's back to the old saying - you get what you pay for - and you'll pay a lot more for the food at Bistro.
