Our family has eaten at many places at Disney before but never at Chef Mickey's. I have a three year old that is excited about meeting Micky and Minnie during this trip, not necessarily at this meal. After reading several threads about the food and overall experience- I am considering canceling the reservation. Has anyone had positive experiences here? Is this reservation so hard to get only because of the classic character meet included?

People seem to hate Chef Mickey's with a passion... I've had positive experiences there. I would go again. The food is nothing special- typical buffet food. Breakfast is a little better than dinner. It's noisy but what do you expect from a restaurant full of kids?? We've had nothing but positive character interactions there. I would keep the reservation especially with a 3 yr old. My kids love it. On our last trip we did lots of chracter dining and character meets but Chef Mickey's was the only place we met Minnie so we were really happy we went there.

Chef Mickey's is definitely not one of our favorites (due to the food), but if you have kids you should try it at least once for the experience. The character interaction along with the monorail gliding overhead will thrill the kiddos.

We did Chef Mickey's breakfast last Sept............the food was fine. The location next to the MK was perfect. The character interaction was AWESOME! If you're looking for better food try Tusker House at AK..........Mickey appears there too........and the breakfast food is outstanding!!

Is your current ADR for breakfast or dinner? If its breakfast, I'd keep it. If its for dinner, consider changing it to breakfast. I would lay down my life for my kids or grandkids. But I won't subject myself or the other adults in our group to dinner at CMs.

Breakfast food is better than the dinner food, for sure, but it's all pretty run-of-the-mill. My opposition isn't based so much on the food as it is on the mess. We have always found CM's to be pretty gross- lots of stuff spilled on the buffet lines, food tracked around the floor, etc. HOWEVER... it is superb for Character Interaction, and you'll knock off probably 6 characters in one 60-minute time-span. Can't do that with 6 meet-n-greets, so I always recommend taking kids to CM's as well as Crystal Palace. Time is money in WDW, and you are going to save a lot of standing-in-line time by doing a character meal (and you'd have to spend the time eating, anyhow!).

It's been a few years since we've eaten there but we loved it. The food was good and the characters were wonderful.

We go every year for dinner (for our kids)
We are on the dining plan so to me it's really no big deal. I have never seen it dirty or the food 'picked over' like others describe. We typically have a 6pm dinner res and do just fine! Our character interaction is amazing and the kids love the singing and waving the napkin!
Do I love the food 'NO', do I like the food 'No' but I do like the desserts :)

Go for breakfast, as it's hard to ruin breakfast food :P and you get the same character interaction.
You're paying for location and characters more than the dining and I would never, ever go for dinner. I'd take free snacks in the park over dinner at Chef Mickey's.
If you have an Animal Kingdom day planned and you're mainly going for Mickey, I would drop it and go with Tusker House and still get to see Donald and Mickey with the others.

We go every year because it is just tradition now to start the trip off there. We don't think the food is terrible, or we have never got sick from the food, etc. Is it the best food, no. Is it the worst, no. we are trying the brunch this year just for something new.

** So jealous, been stalking the boards for a 'brunch' cancellation **
Got a later than normal dinner res and I think the kids will crash.

Have fun!!!

We booked our ADRs the day after they released brunch reservations, so not many knew yet. I figured it was perfect, a little of each meal. Good luck, keep trying. We got a CM reservation last year the day before, just when I had about given up.
