Has anyone just walked in for dinner at chef mickey's or is it mandatory to make a ressie?

It really depends on when you go. Personally I've always made ADR's. Especially during the summer months.

Maybe someone who has been there during a "less crowded season" can offer advice.

CM is a hard one to get into...we tried for multiple last minute trips and no luck. We scored a 5 pm reservation this past Oct and we were totally disappointed with the food. It was horrible, the only thing good was the prime rib and mashed potatoes. Even the kids food was nasty...the girls refused to eat it.

The characters were wonderful, they came around often and spent alot of time with the kids.

I think everyone needs to try this for themselves, maybe we went on an off night....but make sure you get a reservation

I've heard breakfast is far better than dinner there, so I have 7:50am ressies; early, yes, but then it's straight into the park, and we won't get hungry again until a little after 12 so there's a light snack, and then dinner at CP at 6:30.

We have always loved dinner at Chef Mickey's. We did not get in on our trip last year, but we have eaten there at least 8 times and have always had great food.

We have been there too, but only with Ressie's. And that was in Feb and they were really booked then (a slow time of year). Good Luck

We always eat dinner at CM twice during each trip.
We always book our ADRs at the 180 day mark.
The kids love it & the character interaction is great.

DS8 loved the prime rib.
I love the parmesan mashed potatoes (see my tag )!!

We went the end of September and had to wait over 60 min just to get in even with a ressie. The service was horrible the food was ok the characters were fablous. I would do a different character meal or go at a off time like 4:00.

I have tried on two different occasions to get into CM without a reservation and couldn't. Finally, I reserved early enough and got in last September and agree that the food quality is quite poor for a TS restaurant. Although I wouldn't go back for the food, I'd go back for the characters.

We actually like dinner there. It is a very good buffet, they have carved prime rib, and ham I think as well as some pasta dishes, peel and eat shrimp, rotiserie chicken and assorted veggies (great parmasean mashed potatoes). The beef stroganoff stuff was yucky though. Overall we thought it was good, but very expensive for what you get. You are mainly paying for the characters. Still a must do for our kids though.

As far as walking in - I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you have young children. Its in a open wide loud area, and the kids will get VERY excited walking toward it and it they get turned away, I know with my kids, it would get real ugly real fast.

I would definately get ressies. We always go at off season times and make Ressies and it alsays FULL. I just made ressies yesterday for a trip in 5 weeks and got the time I wanted on a weekend, so trying to get ADR is worth a shot. We prefer breakfest over dinner.

If you are there at a quiet time and go late - I mean 9pm, you may be able to walk right in. We had ADR for 9:10 pm on Jan 9th and it was GREAT! The food was good, and our server was terrific. She took pictures with all of our cameras for us - many times, as by 9:30 there were only 2 other tables occupied in the whole place, so the characters came back and played, we even got a picture with all of them together. Our server wanted to make sure we tried the bannans foster bread pudding and brought dishes to the the table of it for all of us. The steamed broccoli, prime rib and mashed potatoes were great. I had a great salad I put together from the salad bar. I had no complaints. So - with ressies or not my advice is go late.

Hi,

Make a reservation. We just came back and the line for people checking in that had ADRs went all the way back to the Concourse Steakhouse area. We went on a Thursday night during what is considered "value season" so I cannot image what it would be like during "regular or peak season".
