Depends on the 2 year old.

Both are loud. T-REX is less chaotic and is true table service, but may be scary. Chef Mickey is a buffet, which is scary in its own way.

My son is loud, typical boy. I want to go somewhere that will be really special for his birthday. Is T-rex really scary? Is the food a Chef Mickeys really that bad?

Didn't find T-Rex overly scary (but I'm not in the mind of a two year old), but it is very loud.

As I say, though: Depends on the 2-year-old. My daughter would have been terrified there at 2.

Which is silly, as she has the inner soul of a T-Rex herself.

The dinosaurs are all around you and they are very large. My son got freaked out in Rainforest Café when he was 4. I've also seen many 2yo get scared by a giant Mickey Mouse. It really depends on the child.

Is your son really into dinosaurs?

I ask because for a 2 year old's bday I would recommend Chef Mickey over Trex except for my son who has been dino obsessed since he was 1.

Have you been to the Rainforest Café? TRex is the same except replace the animals with dinosaurs.

If those are the only two choices, I would choose Chef Mickey's. It's bright and cheerful, the Fab Five will be there and the monorail goes through CR, which is pretty cool! The food, however, is atrocious. TRex is very loud and my DS was freaked out by the dinosaurs the first time we went when he was 4. I think it could scare a two year old. Chef Mickey's is definitely more festive than TRex.

If you want a character buffet with better food, I would recommend Tusker House. We celebrated my DS's 1st birthday at O'hana and had a blast with the coconut races and limbo, plus they bring everyone up who is celelbrating a birthday and sing a special song. If you really want characters, I would also recommend Garden Grill. I find buffets to be very difficult with young children. At Garden Grill, they serve you at the table family style which was always a more relaxing way to eat and meet the characters.

I would chose Chef Mickey's and wait until he/she is a little older perhaps 4-5 (when most kids that age actually think dinosaurs are "really cool" instead of scary.
