Here is our dilemma. I'm planning a trip for myself, DH, mom and dad, and sister who will turn 13 during our December trip. I have all of our table-service meals figured out (we are doing the dining plan) .... except now I'm second guessing myself. I want to make sure we get a variety of food, etc -- but, unfortunately, my family is EXTREMELY picky, so no food they will find "weird". Lol....

Here's what we're doing, and then I'll just pose one question to you.

Day of Arrival....????
MGM: 50's Prime Time Cafe
MK: Liberty Tree Tavern (all-you-can-eat character dinner)
EPCOT: out of pocket/counter service
Day of Departure: All-Star Cafe @ WWS for Daddy :)

I originally planned on making a PS for Chef Mickey's, no questions asked. Characters, all you can eat, etc.... then we are riding the monorail to the Poly beaches to watch the EWP before returning home to rest up for the next day! Now, however...... Concourse Steakhouse sounds like an equally good option. We won't have a steak-type meal any other time, and at 13, DSister would enjoy the characters (as much as I would of course) but also would enjoy a good steak dinner, possibly just as much. IOW.... she isn't turning 6 and dying to see Mickey every waking moment or else all is lost :earboy2:

I'm going to present the dilemma to my family eventually, but want the DISers arguments for either side, please?

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

Here's another option to consider:

Try Chef Mickey's so you get the atmosphere, location, and character experience. But for a steak-type meal, change your Epcot decision from counter service to Le Cellier in Canada, which is an excellent steakhouse.

Best of both worlds, and all.

I sometimes affectionately refer to Chef Mickeys as "Chef Mayhem". That said, I still go because I fully know what to expect. I find it enjoyable. The prime rib is good, the wait staff is friendly, and there is good character interaction.

If your parents want a more subdued experience, go with the steakhouse. Just make sure that everyone is aware that Chef Mickey's can be like dining during kindergarten recess.

Wow! What quick replies... thanks for the advice. Keep the arguments for oneo r the other and the ideas coming! :) I greatly appreciate these boards! :Pinkbounc

Chef Mickey's does have the characters, as as one person mentioned, is sometimes referred to as Chef Mayhem. Also it is a general purpose buffet. This link will take you to the Dinner menu at Concourse, and this other link will take you to the Children's menu. I personally prefer the Concourse as it is not as hectic as CM, though it does get some of the noise.

Concourse steakhouse is where we go for our first meal each trip. My daughter 19 and son 16 and husband love this place. Especially the ribs.
It is a nice restaurant with good food and very relaxing.

LOL, I had the same questions and decided on both for our September trip. We have never eaten at Concourse but Chef Mickeys is just a must do every trip.

this is great advice
and very true

Chef Mickey's=Buffet food, loud and party atmosphere and characters of all types. :rotfl:

Concourse Steakhouse="quieter" meal with Food brought to your table. Not as much "fun" as Chef Mickey's.

Both are great to watch the monorail go throught the Contem.

Enjoy whichever one you decide on!

We have dined at Concourse with my kids twice now when we couldn't get into Chef Mickey's. It's been a resounding success and those steaks are great.

If they have the seafood bisque, it's not to be missed. My younger son bypassed his kids meal and ate nearly a whole bowl by himself. Our server was wonderful and brought another to the table so that my husband and I could actually have some! The next time, we were lucky, they had the bisque and that was what son requested for dinner!

I was thinking of Concourse Steakhouse
However I couldnt stand the idea that I would be able to see Mickey but be too far away from him! lol

Is the Staekhouse loud since it is so close to Chef Mickey's? I LOVE Chef Mickey's when we are there but if I decide to do the steakhouse, I don't want to also hear the Chef Mickey's Mayem!!!

I'd do Chef Mickey's without a second thought. I've never been impressed with the quality of the Concourse Steakhouse and in my experience, they always seem to have a problem cooking steaks to the proper doneness. They're typically overcooked. With Chef Mickey's, you know exactly what you're getting, and the quality of the food is great.
