Chef Mickey's or Cape May Cafe Breakfast?

My mom and I just decided to add a character breakfast to our departure day to make our last morning a bit more fun. Originally wanted Ohana breakfast, but since the trip is only two months away they're fully booked (though I'll keep looking). I was able to get a breakfast at Cape May Cafe and a brunch time slot at Chef Mickey's. We've never eaten at Cape May and last time we went to Chef Mickey's was in 1999. I'm really torn, I've heard the food at Chef Mickey's is atrocious but the menu for Cape May doesn't look that much better, and I think we'd prefer the characters at Chef Mickey's, since it's all of the fab 5. I really think their outfits are cuter at Chef Mickey's too.

Any input? Is the food quality at Cape May's really that much better than Chef Mickey's? Is Chef Mickey's edible if we're just expecting mediocre food for better characters?

The options at Cape May are less than at Chef Mickeys (smaller buffet), but I feel the quality is a bit better. I also prefer the outfits at Cape May, with characters in their beach wear!

You may want to factor in which is more convenient for you, travel wise. I personally would choose whichever was easier to get to especially on a departure day.

I've read many reviews for Cape May, and it sounds pretty good food wise and character wise. We have never been, although we've wanted to, because it's been too difficult to work into our schedule. We usually end up eating at our resort, or something in the park we're going to that day.

I went to Chef Mickey's in March and what it lacks in food quality was made up for in characters and historic location. It was semi-gross (all the food, even when it was brought out new, was cold? not sure how that happened. And we saw a kid stick both of his hands into the scrambled eggs!! Like squishing it between his fingers) but it was super fun. The restaurant is all bright primary colors, characters in chef outfits, and you're in the Contemporary so there's the ambience too which is very attractive to us, with the monorail going through and the amazing Mary Blair murals.

I'm certain you will be happy with either choice! Enjoy!

After going to both I would rather go to Cape May instead of Chef Mickey's. The food at Chef Mickey's is nothing to write home about. Cape May is smaller but I thought the food was much better there. As long as Cape May is not out of the way and makes sense for your travel plans I would go with that one.

Cape May is better food than Chef Mickey's.

But if staying on Monorail Loop - 1900 Park Fare has comparable food to Cape May, albeit, with different Characters.

At this point in time I would choose Cape May over Chef Mickey's simply because of the food. I for one, when going to a character meal, realize that the reason you go is for the characters. With the characters being similar, I have to make a decision based on the food. Like other posters have said above, location may also play a factor into witch one you choose. The buffets, at both places are nothing to write home about, decent buffet quality food that you can get at any normal buffets anywhere. I really hate that the food at Chef Mickey's has been really below normal buffet standard lately, it used to be a tradition that on every trip we would have breakfast there.

Food-wise, 1900 Park Fare blows Cape May out of the water! Made to order omelets, meats, bread pudding :lovestruc . My 2 favorite character buffet breakfasts are 1900 and Crystal Palace. Unfortunately, you can not find any of the Fab 5 there :(

Next would probably be Cape May. Chef Mickey would be on the bottom, second to last Akershus!

We did Cape May this year - it was fantastic!
Definitely on our must do list now...

We love Cape May breakfast! Haven't done Chef Mickey's in many years and it was only for dinner, never breakfast, butI would still pick Cape May.

We have done both for breakfast several times and I like them both for different reasons. Chef mickeys to meet the best characters and it has more food options IMHO, but it is packed at times and can be loud. Cape May doesn't have the food choices of other breakfasts but it's such a calm environment compared to Chef Mickeys, and we book for 7.30am when it opens and the characters make it round twice. Donald even sat at our table once and played for a while.

I'd go Cape May. IMO it's one of the better breakfasts on property.

If you're going just for the characters, Chef Mickey's has the upper edge. However, the characters dressed in their beach attire is pretty unique, even if some are missing.

The food at Cape May is far better than Chef Mickey's.

I loved the food at the Cape May breakfast! Definitely a smaller buffet but felt the quality was great.

We have done both and I like Cape May better, even though there are fewer food options. I felt like it was less hectic and crazy and the characters had an easier time getting to visit each table because it is set up more like aisles.
At Chef Mickey my husband had to intervene to get Mickey to come to our table after passing us multiple times. Toddler meltdown averted, but this was not a problem at Cape May at all.

We haven't done Chef Mickey's, but we were pleasantly surprised with how great Cape May breakfast was last year! The food was really good and the character interaction was awesome!

Thanks all! I think they would be about equally accessible since we're staying at Coronado Springs, we'd have to go to a park and transfer either way.

Is it just you and your mom going? I think Cape May Café is better for an adults-only party. Chef Mickey's tends to have lots of shrieking toddlers parading through and waving napkins. If you will have toddlers with you, they could fit right in at Chef Mickey's.

I'm looking forward to the Cape May Café breakfast in November. It's been so long since I went to this meal that it will be like a "whole new world" to me.

Yes, just my mom and I. This may be a pretty big contributing factor, haha.

I'll just have to make sure we meet Pluto earlier in the trip. We haven't seen him in a few years and he would be a big tip over to Chef Mickey's.

I would definitely choose Chef Mickey's!! Their food is fine - I like it! I certainly didn't think cape May's food was better. Chef Mickey's is a lot more fun!!
