Chef Mickey's - Breakfast or Dinner?

I think my kids (5 and almost 8 at time of trip) will love the characters at CM. We enjoy breakfast foods, but since we're doing Dining Plan, also trying to figure out best value.

So - dinner or b-fast at Chef Mickey's? Based on experience, which is the better meal?

Breakfast at Chef Mickeys is one of my favorite character meals! We like getting an early adr around 7:40-8am so we can be at a park when it opens. I love the choices at breakfast and the fab 5! Dinner... not so much. Did it once and never again. I don't know if it was just an off night but the place was not clean like it is in the morning and the food was just yuck!

I think I chose dinner for the sundae bar - and to be in the contemporary for fireworks. We are NOT early risers, and especially not on vacation since we like to stay out late doing things.

I was able to get a 7:15 for breakfast (park opens at 9) - but thinking that may be too early. Of course, that could be the first and only time we make rope drop ....

Thoughts? (We are staying at YC, if it matters).

I would go for breakfast. In our experience the dinner was just not good. The character interaction and CM's were great but the food was seriously lacking.

If your going because you want the kids to have a great time with the characters then I would say breakfast. IMHO, breakfast is far below average and dinner is horrendous. CM was the worst food I have encountered in WDW. But hey, if I had young children like you, I would be able to look beyond the food and enjoy the magic with the children as Mickey and friends make their way around.

I agree! I'd go with breakfast for sure.

We prefer the choices and the quality of breakfast much more than dinner.

We like one of the last seatings at breakfast so it serves as lunch. We plan it for a MK day and walk over. The food is always replenished, the characters keep circulating and it becomes less chaotic.

Breakfast.
It's hard to mess up breakfast, the dinner food is on par with a Golden Coral or Old Country Buffet for dinner :crazy2:
Also, being a character meal, I've found it best that kids are more behaved in the morning than in the evening. A restaurant packed with kids who were just at the park for 10+ hours... :scared:

To be honest, Chef Mickey's hold's a special place for me from when I was a child and the nostalgia is the only reason I even tolerate the place. Heed the substantial negative reviews mixed into the rave ones.

We have only done breakfast and that was usually on our departure day. We have eaten early middle and late. Our preference was for the late breakfast. The food is changed out frequently. While you're eating different sections will clear out. The last groups will be in one area. The character interaction was better than the other times. It works better with rope drop. (Which wasn't an issue with us.)

We like to do an early entry morning at MK, then do a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's
We have hopper tickets - so after we eat and use the facilities at the CR, we take the monorail to EPCOT for the rest of the day.

We had a nice time at CM for breakfast. They were nice enough to seat us almost two hours late because of the horrendous Christmas Day traffic. Because seriously - it should never take that long to go someplace (AKL to CM at the Contemporary).

Though we have never eaten dinner there, breakfast has always been very good and fresh, characters interact very good, though, with it being a huge place and full most times, they cant spend but so much time per table. We find if we get one of the last seating times at breakfast, characters will spend more time per table, esp. if you are interacting with them too.

We have eaten at Chef Mickey's several times...usually Breakfast is what we have eaten. Then last year we decided to give it a try for dinner bc we were staying at Contemporary and driving in 6 hours so it just seemed easier to do Chef Mickeys for dinner. Honestly Dinner was loud and crowded the characters seemed rushed and the food wasn't that good. We usually do an early ADR for Chef Mickey's its not as crowded or loud and the food is remarkably way better than dinner. Plus the characters seem to be more relaxed. I would vote for breakfast 100 times over than dinner. On the dining plan you are prolly not getting the most for your money since it is breakfast and breakfast is the cheaper of the 2 meals, but I think the food and over all appeal is way better for breakfast than for dinner.

Thanks, all. You have definitely convinced me to do breakfast. Probably a late one on our MK day. Thanks!
