Chef Mickeys: Anyone had luck doing a walk-up?

We had to cancel our January trip and re-book for February. When we had to cancel, we lost out CM ADRs and I wasn't able to get a new meal booked during our new timeframe.

We are going to try to do a walk up on Friday (2/6) around 8:30am - hoping that someone has overslept and we can get a table for 4. What do you think the chances of this will be???

Hi,

Unfortunately--as they say in brokerage commercials--"past performance is no guarantee of future results!"

Just because someone here on the boards has had success--or has not had success--getting a table in the past does not mean you will be fortunate on Friday at 8:30.

Keep calling every day, including after you arrive, and if you don't get anything, try walking up. No one here can tell you for sure whether or not you will be lucky.

One suggestion: you might have more luck walking up if you go first thing in the morning.

I doubt it.

I have friends who REFUSE to make ADRs, yet are PO'd because they have never been able to walk up and get a seat at CM in the last 10 trips.

Duh...Just make an ADR, they always know a year before their trips when they are going. I just do not get it,

But yeah, I doubt you will be able to walk up. I would just keep trying to call between now and then and hope someone cancels.

Chef Mickeys is almost always booked. Your luck of a walk up there is slim to none. If you do not want to make ADRs then I would just suggest avoiding Chef Mickeys period.

I'm going to be the optomistic one......I'm not sure what time the first ADR time slot is, but I'd suggest arriving at that time. I know past experiences don't dictate future experiences, but we normally have good luck getting into a "booked" restaurant if we arrive promptly when they open.

We've had luck at Tutto Italia for lunch, Garden Grill for lunch and 50s Prime Time for dinner. When doing this we have always gotten there right as the restaurant has opened, so check because they have different opening times.

Keep calling for an ADR - call religiously, several times a day, and you might get lucky. On several trips I've called from my resort room that day or the day before and gotten cancellations. Keep calling for an ADR right up until that morning, I swear this has worked for me before.

I think your best bet would be to keep calling, and hope someone cancels.

I don't think its going to happen

I've heard of people walking up in October and late august and geting in but february is just too busy ,even on an "off" week.

Most people dont miss Chef Mickey's because they realize how hard it is to get into Chef Mickey's

Call daily more than once if you can stand it. Then, if that doesn't work, show up early. I've had luck at Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace and Boma getting there at least 30 min and once 1 hr before the official opening and being in line to check in.

Good luck!

Oh I think your chances are slim. AND there is nothing more frustrating then standing in line for your ADR when you are on time and having the person haggle with the greeting staff for a chance for a table. It has happened to me too many times at Chef Mickey's. My suggestion is that you find another location on property for breakfast because you will have hungry children with you. The breakfast at Ohana is a good choice, or perhaps the Grand Floridian - Mad Hatter is hilarious. Cape May might be a good choice for breakfast too.
Go with the sure bet especially with children.

Last July 4th weekend we had an early morning flight delayed by several hours, so instead of going to the airport we went to CR to kill time. It was about 7:45 and after waiting about 5 minutes we were seated with no problem. As others have said its no guarantee, but it does happen:thumbsup2

Yes we have. But I have done it only when the resturant first opened in the morning around 7 or got in line like 4:30 for when they opened at 5.

THe chances are very remote. The chance is that you be left hungry...

Get there 15 minutes before they open the door. Usually they will be able to get you in due to a no show.

My friends and I were staying at AKL for a teacher conference and we wanted to eat at BOMA--we had no ADR, so we were told to wait and get on the waitlist--which was only for the first 30 minutes-1 hour that the restaurant was open. So they started taking walk-ups at (this as been 3 years ago--so i forget times) around 4---we where put on the list and I think we sat down at 4:45 or so.

So what I am trying to say is I think they make slots for walk-ups--just it is at the beginning of service......

A few years ago after being told there were last minute ADR's the Cast Member suggested going as a walk-in and we were still able to eat there for dinner and waited between 30 - 40 minutes.

Yes, it was completely book for our entire 21 night stay, for all meals, we would have taken an ADR at any time but could not get one both before the trip and calling ever day.

So we just went there one morning. Went on opening, and got straight in, not a problem. :thumbsup2
