Chef Mickey

I am planning my first trip to Disney for this Feb and as I am sure you can remember it can be a little overwhelming!
I am traveling with a 4yo boy who is a big fan of Mickey and the gang. I was just wondering to make reservations at Chef Mickey, do we need to be staying in the resort?
Would I be better just staying in Magic Kingdom and eating there and trying to get a few character pictures there? Thanks in Advance.

Oops, sorry...didn't see the 2nd part of your question. It all depends on what you are looking for. We personally love the experience at Chef Mickey's because the kids get to see Mickey & the gang for longer than a minute & there is no waiting on lines.

You don't need to stay at the resort to eat there. Chef Mickey is always a "Must Do" for us and we usually stay at a value. Just hop on the bus to Magic Kingdom and take a little ride on the monorail to the CR. The monorail in itself is a really cool experience. Have fun!

Anyone can make a restaurant reservation anywhere. You do not need to be staying at the resort where the restaurant is located. The only thing to watch out for is that if you make a restaurant reservation inside a theme park, you must have valid admission to that park on the day of the reservation.

is a convenient way to meet the big 5 characters. Disney understands this and charges for the convenience. To us, it is worth the money. It is not the best breakfast, but I find plenty of items to fill me up.

The atmosphere can be chaotic and loud. Sometimes seeing all of the characters can take 90 minutes. We have switched to a late breakfast ADR. The time to see the characters has been shorter and, in my opinion, the interaction has been better.

We ate there on Dec. 10 and we stayed off site. We had dinner ressies. The food was ok when compared to the other character meals we had that week. The character interaction was good and my dd's loved it. The restaurant was loud and the picture they took before you were seated was an extra charge.

Since we were staying off site, I just drove to the CR and parked. Part of the reason for the ressie was to see the resort. We loved it and the view from the outside deck of the castle was cool.

We have a 7:20am ADR for Chef Mickey's then we are spending the day at MK. Can we drive our car and park at CR and leave it there all day? Since the ADR is so early, I thought we might buy ourselves a little more time in the morning by driving rather than being at a bus stop so early.

All day parking is reserved for guests of the resort, unless you use the valet parking.

What usually happens is that if you have a restaurant reservation you are given a three-hour parking pass.

Thanks! So are we better off to just take the bus from POR or to drive to CR then move the car to the MK lot after breakfast? We've never driven to the MK before so I know nothing about parking there.

I think Chef Mickey is the only character meal with the fab five all together. We find character meals are a great way to see characters without waiting in line. We like getting a meal out of the way and getting autographs and pictures at the same time Do at least one character meal a day and we always do Chef Mickey's. Usually everyone can find enough to eat at a buffet too

We did ChefMickey's in '10. We had fun. We were surprised that even though we had a reservation we still had to wait about thirty minutes. By the time we were seated Christina was getting hungry(and cranky). If we would have know this we would have had a snack before leaving the hotel or something.
Overall though we had a great time.
