You know when something bugs you, you HAVE to dig. That was my first trip to WDW in 1994 when we visited CMs in DTD. We even stayed at the CR that time too. SO much has changed. ADRs? Priority Seatings? Reservations? Didn't have (or need) a single one then.

You are right...the young people wouldn't know what that was from (although in defense of my oldest son -- age 24 -- he would because he loves musicals; he can sing the words to almost every song from Phantom of the Opera--but then we've taken him four times!).

I personally love chef mickeys! We regularly eat there for my birthday, and we even served Parmesan mashed potatoes at my DFTW!

Please compare to Crystal Palace and Hollywood and Vine. Just the food. We loved the lunch and dinner food at CP. H&V lunch and dinner food was just Okay, nothing special. We are planning to have dinner at Chef Mickey's but could switch to breakfast instead.

Well that was a very interesting Disney history lesson. I remember eating at the Village Restaurant at the Disney Marketplace in the 80's with my parents when we stayed at the Disney Golf Resort.

We love CP for lunch. (Haven't been there for dinner). We went to CM for dinner last May. It was hands down the worst food and the dirtiest restaurant we have ever run across at WDW. When we walked in as we were being shown to our table (and we were pretty early into the dinner service), my DH looked down at the floor and whispered "Are we really going to eat here, it's filthy!" That is saying a lot because my DH isn't picky. I watched a kid drop the tongs from the chicken onto the floor and then pick them up put them back in the chicken. His horrified mother told the server but if she changed out the chicken, I sure didn't see it. The salads and desserts were good (with the exception of the ice cream which was soup and my 3 year old wouldn't even touch it), but the main courses were pretty much inedible. (Even the mashed potatoes were liquidy and runny). My MIL got sick after eating there. The characters and our server were actually great though. If it tells you anything about how bad it was, my 3 year old has no interest in eating at Chef Mickey's again. We went back in December and she didn't even mention it (thank goodness because we didn't want to go). She was all about going to CP, CRT, Akershus, and Biergarten again.

Chef Mickey's was always our first night dinner but after an absolute horrible dinner this past June it won't be anymore. My family had been telling me the past several years how bad it was but wanting to keep our "tradition" alive I kept making ADR's. Needless to say, I finally came to my senses and did not book it for our upcoming trip. It's very sad that Disney has allowed it to get this bad.

We've not done Crystal Palace for anything but breakfast--but their breakfast is a must do for us every trip. Chef Mickey's breakfast is okay (but we like CP better). Hollywood & Vine is one of two Disney restaurants you could not pay us to eat at again--filthier than Chef Mickey's, disgusting, lukewarm food (when there was food...took forever to replenish) and horrible service.

when we went in october for dinner well yes the food wasn't worth the price but the character interaction we had was amazing... and we had a window seat for wishes to boot, at least 20 minutes of character visiting in the hour or so we were there and mickey even brought my daughter a cup cake to celebrate her first visit and helped her blow out the candle, it was completely worth it and i am totally bummed that it is booked solid for our last minute trip next week. on the other hand ohana breakfast was terrible saw a character for maybe 2-3 minutes of the time we were there and had to wait well after we were finished for the 20 seconds stitch spent at our table very dissapointing.

Most of the reviews I've read say the food at Chef Mickey's is not great but character interaction is very good. Did you like the food at Ohana's? We had breakfast there twice during last week of Oct. 09, and we loved all the food especially the warm pineapple bread and cinnamon raisin bread. Lilo, Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto all came to our table at least twice in the 45 minutes we were there.. kidding around, hugs, high-fives, pictures, autographs, etc... And it seemed fairly busy in the restaurant. We definitely plan on doing the Ohana breakfast again in Dec. 2010. Our other alternative for Chef Mickey's is the Garden Grill (which also gets a lot of mixed reviews).
