I HAVE done other character breakfasts but a loooong time ago....

why all the hubbub about the Chef Mickey breakfast? In other words, why here and not somewhere else?

Planning our t:banana::banana::banana:rip............

and why does it seem sooooo hard to get a ressie here?

Chef Mickey's is a lot of fun!! :) We've been a few times. Character interaction is very good and the food is typical breakfast buffet fare. Atmosphere there is wonderful and we really enjoy it! We are going again in Jan. :cool1: I'm sure you'll enjoy it!! :)

We love Chef Mickeys breakfast..It's a fun start to the day and you can hop on the monorail to Epcot if you like or walk over to the Magic Kingdom when you finish playing/eating with Mickey and Pals. Its an open air restaurant and your children can be a little more excited/loud than in some of the smaller ones. This is a must do for every trip and we will be back to visit Mickey and Pals in January!!

it's the characters...getting Mickey is a coup, of course. And it's the location, just a monorail away from the Magic Kingdom.

As for the actual quality of the breakfast...it was just OK. The selection was more limited than other Disney breakfast buffets we've been to (for non-character buffet, Boma is the champ. And for character breakfasts, we thought the food was much better at Crystal Palace.)

But if you want to see Mickey & Friends, Chef Mickey's is your choice.::MickeyMo

so, it's about the location more than anything else, correct?

also, VERY hard to get ressies at 180 day mark? going LATE Aug 2012

We made our ressies at the 120 day and didn't have any trouble.. We are trying Chef Mickey's this time. We are going in March so I will let ya know how it is.. We like the Tusker House and will be doing that one along with a few others this trip :goodvibes

We just ate Chef Mickey's for breakfast last week for the first and last time. It was disgusting....Floor's and utensil's were sticky, buffet was messy, etc. We did have a late ADR at 11:15am for breakfast, but no excuse for what we saw...:confused3

Well, for starters--- Chef Mickey's breakfast is far better food wise than dinner!!! Plus it's cheaper and it's pretty hard to mess up breakfast.

As for the character stuff...the draw is the fab 5. You are paying to see the mouse himself and his closest friends. Sure, he appears at other meals, but this really feels like you're meeting the core of the top Disney characters and without the lines you'd get at M&Gs in the parks. i.e. you're killing two birds with one stone and doing it in a more relaxed way.

We have done Chef Mickeys and it is just okay. You are right that it is about the location that is key for this and of course the Fab Five. We like the Tusker House better and Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy are there. The lines seem shorter and it is right in the park (AK). If you want a good buffet go to the one at the Dolphin (Fresh Mediterranean Market). They will make your eggs/omelets (no scramble they are on the buffet), pancakes, and french toast fresh. Great food and service.

The characters. For myself, its the first place that comes to mind when I think dining with Mickey and friends. The location is convinenet too. You leave the MK, get on the monorail and you're there!

We were there in 2008 for dinner, it was fine. Nothing out of this world, all normal foods, it wasnt bad but nothing like the food at Crystal Palace if you want to compare it to other character buffets. I think Crystal Palace has a better selection of food and more foods that yo uwould not be eating every night for dinner at home.

We then went back in 2009 for the characters and because it was not a bad meal. Well, this time it was a bad meal. Not a large selection of food at all, most stuff was cold, and they were doing a poor job of refilling the food. It was a bad experience with the food, but the characters were good:thumbsup2

This year, we're going there for breakfast. I want to see the characters (and have mickey waffles) and I figure after our bad dinner experience last time, how can you mess up breakfast:laughing:

For reservations: it depends on what time of year you're going. When we went February break we booked it 180 days out, we always got in for the time we wanted. Id say book as close to 180 days as possible for a busy time so you have more control over what time you get. For this trip Im about to go on (early Decmeber) we booked it 100ish days out and got the time we wanted. For late August Id say you might not need to book it 180 days out, but it would not hurt so you can still have the control over your time.

Good food and lots of character interaction......They dont rush you in and out like cattle....

To me, Chef Mickey's is classic Disney, because of the characters. The location is also very convenient. We always do CM. It was one of my first character dining experiences as a kid, and one of the first for my kids as well.

My guess as to why is so popular is because kids LOVE it there. All three of my kids listed this as the #1 place they wanted to return to on our second trip. So, the reason it would be harder to get a reservation here is because you have a lot of parents trying to get reservations here simply because the kids want to. That's what I think anyway. Chef Mickey's and 'Ohana is the only repeats we're going to this trip. Not because we didn't like other places, but because there are so many great places to choose from and those 2 made the cut as must do's for us.

My husband and kids liked Chef Mickeys better that 1900 Park Fare when we went in May. I thought the service at Chef Mickeys was better and the character interaction was the same but the fresh sliced ham and lobster eggs Benedict at 1900 Park Fare was awesome. So its basically whatever you want and what you family wants to experience.

We really didn't like Chef Mickeys. The character interaction was good but the place was dirty and crowded and the food was blah.

We like it because it's a high level of excitement for the kids and we can meet the "Big 4" characters without standing in a line. That's pretty much why I schedule any of the character meals: so my kids can meet the characters and we don't have to "waste" any time standing in lines. The food is ok; typical buffet fare. We have only done breakfast here.
