We had a lot of fun the couple of times we visited Pats and Genos! (One night at 4am in the pouring rain passing through Philly!) And we liked the cheesteaks (Genos > Pats; tried them both). They seem to do a good business anyway!
Pat’s and Geno’s can be fun at 4am after a night of drinking. I’ll also give the slight edge to Geno’s.
Found a decent one yesterday at D’Angelos.I had no idea there was a holiday for this! I will have to have one soon to make up for missing it.
I made a mushroom swiss cheesesteak the other night. Not authentic, but as I’ve said more than a few times here, authenticity is overrated.

Would any self respecting Philly resident ever step foot in those two places? Aren't they reserved for the tourists? Going to those places is like visiting NYC and getting a slice at Sbarros... (221) The Office - New York Slice! - YouTube
I THINK people from the surrounding neighborhoods go there, as do other area residents after a baseball/football/hockey/basketball game or a concert.
But in general, people stick to places in their own locales.

You HAD to mention NYC and pizza, didn't you?
DiFara's in Brooklyn--The Essence of NY-style Pizza.
Dom De Marco, founder, may you rest in peace. That man was the King of Slice.
I have a theory. Newly formed. St. Louis Pizza cheese and Cheez wiz are made in a ghost kitchen by the same manufacturer. ACME plastics.Unlucky us live in St. Looey where everybody seems to think a cheesesteak requires chopped green peppers. GRRROOOSSS!
But, if you've ever had the misfortune to try St. Louis-style pizza, you'll understand why restaurants here murder cheesesteaks. It gives abomination a whole new level of meaning.
Ahhh the cheesesteak, easily the most over rated sandwich in the world despite also being one of my favorites. No other sandwich gets all the faux expertise bloviating from blowhards than the cheesesteak.
Of course I had to mention NYC pizza. You know me....![]()

Agreed. The one of Avenue J in Brooklyn, correct? I meant to make it out there when I was in NYC last October but we were at the Brooklyn Zoo and I wanted to go but it was closed on Monday.
