Cheese.

Reading this now and thinking of you Willy J. While in HS and college my grandmother suffered with dementia and eventually had to move in with us. I completely understand every word of what you wrote in your OP. Your're doing a wonderful job taking care of her and I admire you for doing so.

Hope today is better and you have a great one. :flower3:

My Granny suffered dementia her last couple of years so your thread brought tears back to me thinking of her.

Take care of you, Willy. Sending you lots of hugs and positive thoughts and a big piece of cheese.

:grouphug: Hope today is better.
You are a good son to keep her home as long as you can. Kudos to you.
MIL is in a care facility. She no longer knows anyone or much of anything. It is a very difficult thing to deal with

Just a brief update. . .

First of all, thank you all so much for the kind words of support; they really do mean a lot to me. :)

I just went in to see if she was ready to get up and make sure her arm was okay. She has no memory of falling, said her arm was fine, and went back to sleep. So that's good.

As far as a support system; I'm pretty much it. My father passed 8 years ago, my brother died suddenly in his sleep a little more than a year ago (which sent my ma from some obvious memory issues where I felt comfortable leaving her home all day to go to work to needing me here all the time) and it's just me and mom left of our little family.

I did have nurses come in, but it just upset my mom more than it gave me a break.

I generally think I deal with it okay; and honestly, coming back here to the DIS and being part of our weird, wonderful little community again has helped me more than anything. It gives me a chance to take my mind off things while still being within calling distance when I'm needed.

If she lives long enough to get to the point where she no longer is aware of her surroundings, I'll have to place her somewhere, but until then I'm just trying to keep her home and safe and comfortable.

Thanks again for the support- I needed it. :)

Caregivers like you are saints. I mean that. You are a good son to be taking care of your mother.

I was gonna invoke the "S" word too--"Saint." Good on ya Willy for taking care of your mom like that. On a happier note, we're big cheeseheads here too. We're gifted a subscription to a cheese of the month club from our DDs each Christmas. You get to try different types of cheese you wouldn't normally try or even find in stores near you. We've enjoyed every single one. :)

The part I bolded............I SO know what you mean!

I'm sorry you had such a tough night. I hope you and your mom have a better day today.

Thank you and thanks to everyone for the kind words.

She's up drinking coffee, eating cereal, and watching "Bonanza" seeming no worse for wear.

She noticed the small bruise on her arm and thinks one of the dogs scratched her, and I'm just going with that. :)

Thanks buddy! Cheese is good; the sharper, the better. :)
