Cheese Ball Yak Attack: 2 kids, 2 dogs, 1200 miles - The Sequel

He learned that Madison is an artist und genius. At one point I heard him say "I could listen to that all day." :) Madison was disappointed that she was not able to meet Otto with her shirt on but it was a much cooler experience for us adults.

Now that right there is incredibly cool! And I've had ... und genius ... stuck in my head all day today! And every single time I've mentally repeated it - I've started to laugh. He has often cracked me up, but never been one that I've sought out. He really must have been tickled to see he has a fan "club". :)

Dude, that is an amazing story about Otto. The magic of Disney never ceases to amaze. :thumbsup2

I've already won them over on the most important battle. Bambi is a Bears fan, I'm on the season ticket waiting list for Packer tickets. The kids are already showing very strong Cheesehead tendencies!

Now I believe that there is a 12 step program that we can get your kids enrolled into. In fact I think that I'll have to introduce them to my DD Megan who is allergic to dairy to show them that Cheeseheads are bad! :rotfl2:

If you could get me the information on the 12 step program I will be faithful in making sure they get there for every single meeting and work the program during the week. Does not seem to matter that I buy them Bears clothes they still insist on making daddy happy. (Truthfully I think he bullies them when I am not around).

I love the Tower of Terrier! Maybe they can put one in at Animal Kingdom?
It would be impossible to pull my kids away from that attraction. Unless they put a box full of kittens on the other side of the park.

These were taken at a Packer preseason game in 2008. (I'm getting them young - taking them to WDW and Lambeau Field before they even start school!) The kids had a great time. Whenever Evan sees me wearing my Packer hat, he runs to the hat drawer to grab his. And Madison loves to coordinate our outfits - me in my Packer jersey, her wearing hers. :thumbsup2

Evan's joy is from the bucket on his head. He had a great time with that. He never watched a play. Madison looks ill. She had more fun talking with the people behind us (who thankfully did not mind that I was wishing horrible things to happen to the people on the field). Besides, I have taught my kids to be polite and not hurt your feelings. That is why the guy from your work could not tell how much pain I was in for sitting there. I would also like to note that when I talk about taking the kids to Soldier Field you tell me that it would cost to much.

You didn't think I was going to ignore this post did you?

I think this is totally awesome to see both sides of the story here popcorn::

Ok, I'm all caught up! Too much to quote without hijacking the report (pirate:), so I'll just throw in a couple of random thoughts:

Glad you enjoyed Le Cellier. That's our favorite place to eat in the parks (couldn't be because they specialize in steak, could it? Nah...). But I hear you about the cost. We did "free" dining last time, and were thankful once we saw the receipt. Hopefully the server encouraged you to dip the pretzel bread in the cheese soup.

I agree that crappy golf is better than no golf! :thumbsup2

And Evan had no problem with TOT? Thanks for making me feel inadequate...:lmao:

Love the story about meeting up with Otto! That's awesome! And you guys have some great pictures! :thumbsup2

Hmmm...I don't want to take sides here. But how did the Packers/Bears thing not come up in pre-marital counseling? :rotfl:

Please. I've been dipping stuff in cheese soup since before I could walk.

It helps that I'm a crappy golfer. Must be that whole "circle of life" thing.

I will not take this opportunity to add to your insecurity. I'm not sure why, because that really doesn't sound like me, but I won't do it.

It was pretty touch and go there for a while, but we both equally decided that I was never to discuss them in her presence.

It turns out that it's just a depressing to write about the final day of your trip as it is to live it.
The week went by very fast, and all too soon Friday was upon us. The plan was to let the kids spend our last morning in Florida with Grandma & Grandpa while we packed up the van with all the stuff we brought with us, plus all of the stuff we acquired while down there. The rain was coming down pretty hard most of the morning, but luckily I was able to back the van into the garage to load it up.
We all settled in for a little lunch (hot dogs, mac & cheese and whatever leftovers were still hanging around in the fridge), then we headed for the van.
As I've mentioned before, Madison is a very emotional child and leaving was hitting her pretty hard. It broke my heart to have to buckle her in while she quietly sobbed. :sad1:
So with everything and everyone loaded up, we hit the road in the early afternoon. I don't know if Evan was bored or what, but we had to have 3 potty stops before we left the state of Florida. The second stop was at a rest area just south of Gainsville, where this sign was posted:
IMG00092-20100312-1653.jpg

Sorry, puppies. You're going to have to hold it until we get to somewhere that I won't die by taking you for a walk.

Little did I know that stop would be just over an hour away. Evan announced he had to go again, so I took the next exit - the last exit before you get to the Georgia border. The gas station there had certainly seen better days, but it was our only option. The bathrooms are in a separate building across the parking lot. I have never (and I mean never) been in a flush bathroom that smelled more like an outhouse in my life. :scared:
On our way back to the highway, we noted the irony of this place. While the first restrooms you get in Florida at the DOT rest stops are very clean and welcoming and happy, the last restroom on your way out of the state basically says "What? You're leaving? Fine! Up yours!"

Most of the ride was uneventful. Dinner was a McDonald's Drive Thru somewhere in Georgia (I think :confused3)

We stopped for gas in Tifton, Ga and were impressed that it had a sign declaring itself the Reading Capitol of the World. I guess since we read that sign, we contributed!

I didn't keep track of the details, but I know I drove until we got through Atlanta, then we alternated every few hours until we got to Kentucky, in the middle of the night. We were all pretty beat, so we all caught some sleep at a rest area.

I think this was in Indiana somewhere. Spoiled dog.
IMG00096-20100313-0705.jpg

We got back into Racine just around lunchtime and swung through Qdoba on the way to the house. 1287 miles (we took a different route out of Lakeland - more highway miles, but it maybe saved us only 5 minutes) in 23 1/3 hours.

So that's the way this trip ended. But as I said before, this series is a trilogy. It will be continued in December 2010, when we return to Disney World for a week in a 2 bedroom villa at Animal Kingdom with an old friend and her son. Stay tuned, you're not going to want to miss this!

Thank you for reading along. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing my trip and reading all of your comments. Hijack attempts and all. pirate:
So I can't think of a more fitting way to close my trip report than with someone's last words.

“Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

“Oh, but anyway, Toto, we're home! Home! And this is my room - and you're all here! And I'm not gonna leave here ever, ever again because I love you all! - And oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home.”

“Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.”

“Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: 'With great power comes great responsibility.' This is my gift. My curse."

"Drink up me 'earties. Yo ho!"

So true. :sad2:

Doesn't it always?

Awwww Poor Maddie. :sad1::sad1:

So you weren't feeling adventurous? I mean that could of been your last 'thrill' attraction of the trip!

Looking forward to your December trip!

“Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.”
One of my favorite movies!

Barry- Great report! I'm so glad Bambi got to interject a tad and let us know the 'true' story!!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2: It was nice meeting you and your fam! Hopefully we will be in Florida in December too but we are still waiting for our dates from MAW.

I think your inclusion of the parting shot from M*A*S*H is very fitting - at least for me, since a) I watched that finale in primetime back in February 1983 when you were, what 3 or 5 or something like that, AND b) I just watched it again yesterday afternoon after wrapping up another run through of all 11 seasons of the show. Your timing is impeccable my friend!

So you have done a rare thing by having a sequel that's even better than the original... I sure hope the next installment of your trilogy surpasses this one - but I have confidence it will! :thumbsup2 It's been fun. pirate:

Definitely true. And I'm suffering through my first day back at work today, too. Maybe I should stop reading now, before I get too depressed.

As I've mentioned before, Madison is a very emotional child and leaving was hitting her pretty hard. It broke my heart to have to buckle her in while she quietly sobbed. :sad1:

See? I should have stopped! This is brutal.

Yeah, that's definitely not the story you want people relating about how you passed away.

It's over? Already? :sad1: You guys will just have to take more vacations. A lot more. How else will we be entertained? :confused3

I'm sure you're aware of the pitfalls of trilogies. Not too many great examples to choose from. Maybe Return of the King is the model? As long as you don't have 15 different endings.

Great job on the report, Barry. You have a beautiful family, and it looks like you have a lot of fun. And you have the patience of a saint for putting up with the rest of us doofuses. Looking forward to December! :thumbsup2

It is always sad at the end of the trip. Even more so when you have that much driving ahead of you.

I don't blame you for not stopping because I wouldn't have got out if I saw that sign.

Love the pic of the dog all curled up.

Do you know what this is? Finger pointing. Laying blame. Attempting to weazle out of some individual responsibility. But honestly, what this really is... is akin to something I once heard in the deepest, darkest jungles of Africa (okay, really I've heard it more than once, but saying I heard it 10,000 times might be a bit extreme too) - anyway - I once heard in that jungle that the Nile is the longest river in Africa, and if you don't believe me, you're just in... denial. So Mark, there you have it. Denial baby. Go way, way, way back to the very first page, and tell us all who it was that posted first in the sequence... Oblvious or stopher? Hmmm. Go ahead, check... you'll see that it was none other than the Captain himself! And with that, the Captain led the charge into the wilds of hija... commenting, yeah that's it, commenting on this entertaining narrative. And with that true leadership, has emboldened his rowdy band of conspirators to have a bit of fun throughout these reports. Arrgh.... pirate:

I commend you for saying you were not brave but you failed to mention that your wonderful wife (that would be me) who is deathly afraid of snakes had to take your son to the bathroom because you refused to get out of the car.
