Cheerleading and dance world championship ?

We were there last year in April with Grad nights and Dance and Cheer competitions and it was fine. We saw very few girls in the parks in crowds and even then most were very polite with the exception from one group form Quebec who were extremley rude.

Does anyone know if they normally check out the last night of their competition or do they stay the week?
Thanks.

well that can very
we have seen some of the groups stay for a day or two after the contest was over but i doubt every group will stay

we have one the last week in Feb up at the wide world of sports.. we will be doing parks before and after since there is no school that friday. Looking forward to it:cool1: of course there is the one in april also. Not sure if we will be in that one also..

Are the Championships actually in one of the parks or are they at the Wide World of Sports the whole time? We will be staying there one weekend in April why they are there.

The dance competitions are held in the World Showcase at Epcot.

I would think that they'd checkout on the last day-Sunday because school is still in session.

We've been there before when there were cheer competitions. The only way we knew this was because we saw cheerleaders from one of our local schools at the airport. Not one time did we see them in the parks.

My daughter was a competition cheerleader for 5 years. These girls and their teams want to WIN. Their concentration is on the performance not on Disney World. If they have time off, you can bet they're practicing. The fact that this competition at WDW excites them only because it's an invitational which means the teams were good enough to be invited to compete.

I would switch hotels if my reservation is at a resort where they're staying because they will practice where ever they find green space.

I think it is absurd to try and plan your trip around whether there is going to be cheerleaders, football players, Brazilian Tour Groups, etc. At any given time there are so many different events going on that they are not even noticable.Didney World is a huge place and accomodate these groups as well as everyone else.

I agree with everything you say, except for planning the resort. Nothing worse than staying at the All Stars during Grad Night, for example. Kids will be kids, so I don't blame them, I just want to get a decent night's rest.

Most school districts require you to be b ack inschool after the competiton ends, so if girls stay it will be with their parents who will be taking them out of school for a vacation.

I posted his thread a while back and wanted to bump it to see if there is any new information on it.

The US All Star Federation World Championships are the event being held April 22-26 at Disney. As mentioned earlier, this event is inviation only. The top teams from the US and around the world will be in Orlando to compete for the world championship. These are teams from cheerleading/dance all-star gyms. They don't have affiliations with any schools. So it's not like the schools can give them permission to miss classes.

Here is a link to the two travel packages (for teams and for families and friends). You should be able to find out their hotel options in the packages (I didn't open them myself, but I've received the similar packages from Varsity for other events).

http://usasf.net/worlds/travel/

As people have stated in the past, the hotels listed in these packages are likely the ones the teams and families will stay at. But any of them have the option to buy tickets to the event only and stay wherever they'd like.

For those curious about cheer and dance events in general, it was mentioned earlier that there is a event listing at the WWoS web page. If any of the events are labelled UCA, UDA or Varsity, that means they're sponsored by Varisty Brands, Inc., the largest provider of cheer and dance camps and competitions. Their website is: www.varsity.com You should be able to find similar travel packages at the web site for any events they sponsor in Jan through March.

Note that some of the cheer/dance events at WWoS/Disney are not sponsored by Varsity. But I would think if you went to the sponsoring companies website, you might be able to find their travel info too.

Have fun.

We are going to WDW 23 Apr - 1 May and your info was very helpful - thank you!!!

The only thing that I would add to this is that there are least 14 different organizations that sponsor and organize cheerl / dance / twirl events at the various levels from middle school thru varsity college.

I've tried to create a comprehensive list several times and completely gave up. It's too splintered. There are too many organizations and its too splintered.

I could come up with a half-baked list.. but .. incomplete would mean that someone could consult the list, feel with security they booked during a 'safe' time and end up in the middle of cheer/dance/twirl --- mania.

I have a list that shows a ridiculous number of events in Orlando from January thru May .. and while some of these events are held off site - that doesn't necessarily mean that the teams, families etc.. wouldn't choose to stay at Disney cause "We're in Orlando anyway..."

Just go to the Disney wild world of sports (not yet changed to ESPN online) and check their upcoming events. I looked and the OP is correct, as there is a cheer/dance competition going on April 23-25. Not sure where they might be staying, but guessing the All Stars. I check this website often to know what I might expect during my trips.

WWOS isn't all that up to date though and there is usually a cheer/dance competetion group almost every month. We were there in Feb and a competetion was going on (stayed at ASMo and had plenty staying there), been there for Pop Warner in December (staying at both ASM and POFQ and they were staying both places different years) and in June my bff's daughter and neice are going for a dance competetion at WWOS that still is not on their calendar. Their group is staying at CBR.

I just dont think yo ucan avoid them, but we havn't had a huge problem with them and don't think they effect crowds that much.

We stayed at ASmovies last April during the Cheer/Dance Worlds.

I agree that we seldom noticed them at the parks.

HOWEVER.......
The buses & pool were a different story. I could go on and on but.....:confused3

This year we are staying at POR and hoping to avoid the late night cheering outside of our door & the mob of bikini-clad teens tanning in the kiddie pool. :)

I was there last April during cheerleading worlds, and barely noticed them, apart from large groups of teenage girls all dressed the same. Honestly, I think it's kinda fun to spot them in the parks, they look like they're having a blast, always good to see people enjoying themselves. Sure sometimes they might be a little loud, but I didn't expreinece any problems with them being rude or obnoxious. One thing to note tho, thy did crowd downtown Disney at night, nothing bad, just a lot of teenagers gathering in one
place!

I can clear up some things here.. Being in All Stars for years.. most teams WILL be staying at least overnight on Sunday night.. this is Worlds. Most teams have flown in and the competition is not over until after 8-9pm most years and then the athletes go to the block party at Animal Kingdom until the wee hours of the night. The large majority will check out on Monday and fly home but there will be some stragglers. Those stragglers will either be some of the teams that come from the 40+ foreign countries that compete or just kids there with their families. All Star cheerleaders are in the habit of flying to comps a lot and miss school days as a result. An extra day here or there can happen. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't be too concerned with them practicing on the grass. They may do some run throughs here or there or photo ops but it should not be too aggresives. These athletes are at the top of their game.. It is not as easy as a high school or pop warner teams bid to a "disney" comp. They don't yell or chant so there should not be much noise from their practices and not likely they will be doing risky stunting or tumbling on grass, they are spring floor trained and will not be risking injury with all that is at stake. Most of the gyms my daughter has been with has flown into Worlds on thursday. checked in hung out. Gone to parks on friday. met at the milk house for a quick practice Friday evening. Comp both Saturday and Sunday and fly home Monday. It will be much of the same for them this year.

The allstar resorts are PACKED this year with cheerleaders.. heaven help me, I'm staying at music. :rolleyes1 It's just a ton of noisy older teenagers with a splash of college age kids.. It's a lot of hyped up excited kids.. ugh!

Do you have to prove that you're in the competition to get the discounted tickets?

you don't have to prove it but you have to get the information off the worlds website and then fax in the ticket info. If you want to do discounted tickets it's called a commuters package. You have to list the team/organization you are affiliated with on the paper. So no, you don't have to prove it but the organization gets told who buys tickets under their name and then know who should and should not be purchasing tickets under them. You do need to show ID and it needs to match the name/info on your invoice that Worlds mails you in response to your fax request for tickets.

We usually go in late Jan and early Feb and have been there during competitions. I would say the only park i noticed groups at was DHS and it was a Non issue, they are having fun and well behaved. We stay at Pop and didn't have any issues with noise or notice them around the resort either.

I would not rebook a trip or replan due to these groups. There all all kinds of groups all through the year. It would be hard to aviod any or all groups.

Do they really have cheerleaders from other countries participating in these 'world championships'? I think it would be interesting to see how cheerleading is interpreted in other cultures!

Yes, they have international division and cheerleaders are invited from all over the world.
