CHEERLEADING AND DANCE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.... I see on touring plans.com this is going to be over the weekend in April that I am planning my trip. I was (maybe foolishly) under the impression that any cheerleading stuff was done in December. Anyway has anyone experienced this before and have any idea what to expect or how this event will affect my trip?

I am waiting for the same answer as I am extremely disappointed that Grad Night will be both weekends we are there

I know its not enough that we have Grad Nights which I have dealt with before, now we have cheerleading on the same weekend. Not happy.

We were there in January during a dance world championship... when I realized I had booked during that championship, I was SOOO disappointed... I seriously thought about changing our dates. But, I'm gald I didn't because we didn't even notice them... and we were staying at the same resort (ASMu) as many of the teams. We saw a few teams walking around, but never had any interaction with them or negative experiences.

I think they run some kind of cheer/dance championship almost every weekend from January to April! We have been various weeks during this time frame and seen cheerleaders every time. It wasn't so bad though, there's lots of girls who are dressed alike, but I think they spend a lot of time performing. It might depend on if you are in the same hotel as where they house the groups (often it's the All Stars).

How do you find out where the "groups" are staying and where the events will be so as to avoid them...well that sounds bad. Maybe not avoid them but just plan well:)

I think I can help... DOn't hate, but I coach a High School pom squad, and we do the UDA competition every year at DHS. It is typically the first weekend in Feb, actually Wed. - Sat. We always stay at All Stars, but we also have the otpion of CBR if we want to spend more. UCA (cheer) has their competition in Jan.

The competitons take place in the Indiana Jones theater, and the girls overwhelming prefer DHS to the other parks for the thrill rides. That said, they have very little free time between practice and competition. So, you will see some HS aged girls, many in costume, and they will be giggling and acting like they do. But it really does not have an impact on the parks, I promise. There just aren't enough of them to make a huge impression on crowd levels. HOWEVER, I would not stay at ASMu or ASSp during these times. We use the aprking lots to practince late into the night (sorry!) and try as I we do to get the girls in bed and quiet, you know how that goes. So, if you stay somehwhere else, my guess is you won't be affected at all. You can always go on the UDA and UCA websites to find out when the competitions take place.

Have fun!:goodvibes

I have been to WDW twice before during a time with cheer competitions and did notice some in line at ToT at DHS and more at DTD one evening. If they hadn't been cheering while standing there, I doubt I would have noticed them at all. Other than that, there was not any difference than the many trips we've taken at a non-cheer time. There are always some sort of group functions going on at WDW (Pop Warner, soccer, Brazilian tour groups, etc) so I don't even bother checking anymore.

I was at All-Star Sports this year during the Cheerleading and Dance Worlds and had no problems. This competiton is the largest in the World and brings the Champions from over 40 Countries and Championship teams from all over the United States to crown the best teams in the world.:)

I actually decided to go to Wide World of Sports one day and see what it was all about. They are AMAZING athletes and should be respected for the tremendous amount of time and dedication they give to their Sport IMHO.

If you don't stay at one of their resorts, you will most likely never know they are there.:)

Don't worry too much - I've been there as a participate (sp?) and they really don't have that much free time. They spend a lot of time in competition and practice. I only recall have time later at night, but during the day, you shouldn't notice a big difference in crowds.

Thank you for the help. I fully understand that you have to stay and play somewhere. Its a hard thing to manage and ensure everyone has fun and is safe and I know I wouldn't want to be in charge.

Thanks

Are the Championships actually in one of the parks or are they at the Wide World of Sports the whole time? We will be staying there one weekend in April why they are there.

I can't speak for another division's championship, but UDA and UCA hold their Varsity level competition in the Indiana Jones theater. And even if they didn't, when they have free time the girls overwhelming choose to go to DHS over the other parks. They like the thrill rides. But you won't notice a difference in park crowded-ness.... You just may see a bunch of giggling girls throughout your day....

I would adivse to avoid the All Stars, though, as that is where most squads stay and I will admit they are loud.

we have gone several times in january during cheer contests
one time our flight almost had to be diverted because the collage girls that didnt eat or sleep ended up falling out
on the last trip the me bus to all stars was a zoo with cheerleaders
yes on ocassion you run into a few realy pepy groups in the parks

I think it is absurd to try and plan your trip around whether there is going to be cheerleaders, football players, Brazilian Tour Groups, etc. At any given time there are so many different events going on that they are not even noticable.Didney World is a huge place and accomodate these groups as well as everyone else.

The Cheerleading and Dance Worlds should not negatively impact your trip. Of all of the cheer/dance competitions that take place at Disney, this is the largest. It is also the most elite! Many athletes stay at the all-star resorts and overflow to some of the moderates.

Go check out the competition, you will be amazed!

Have fun!!!

Just go to the Disney wild world of sports (not yet changed to ESPN online) and check their upcoming events. I looked and the OP is correct, as there is a cheer/dance competition going on April 23-25. Not sure where they might be staying, but guessing the All Stars. I check this website often to know what I might expect during my trips.

Does anyone know if they normally check out the last night of their competition or do they stay the week?
Thanks.

Which weekend in April are the championships on? Sure I've been there before during it and didn't really notice!
