Making grilled cheese and on the back of my Publix Brand Shredded Cheddar Cheese (yellow)--the first suggestion is serve in eggs and the second suggestion is to sprinle on top of apple pie.

I have never heard of this.

A few weeks ago I ordered a ham & cheese sandwich from a local place for lunch and it had thinly sliced granny smith apples on it......I thought....wow.....what an odd combination but it was actually quiet good.

To answer your question.....no, I've never seen cheese on apple pie.

DH does this and I think it is disgusting. I can't even watch him eat it - I have to look away.

ETA: oh, and he doesn't 'sprinkle' it on, either. He piles it on and then sticks it in the microwave so that all you see it this huge melted pile of cheese with a sliver of a piece of pie peeking out. Yuk, yuk, yuk!

I've actually heard of an apple combo with melted cheese (fondue anyone?). So savory, makes a little sense.

Just seemed odd to me on an apple pie that is filled with sugar and stuff--to add cheddar cheese.

As my Gran used to say: Apple Pie without Cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze!

Nothing better! We always have cheese with our apple pie. :)

Same here, a great Yorkshire tradition, especially a slab of cheddar with cold apple pie.
I also enjoy a mature, sharp cheddar with my Christmas (fruit) cake.
The sharp and sweet combination works really well for me.

I have several family members who have a bit of cheese with their pie. It's quite good! Melting it over the top tho, that's going a bit too far I think!

So is it British? My family never mentioned it growing up.

It's somewhat common around here. Sharp cheddar is preferred mostly I believe.

I've heard of it but it's not something we do in my family and I can't bring myself to try it.

There is an Andy Griffith Show episode where they mention it.
:)

I don't know where he got it from, because nobody else in the family puts cheese on apple pie, but when ever we go to Taco Bell, DS14 gets one of the carmel apple empanada with a cup of their nacho cheese that he dips it into. I can't watch him eat it. It just looks so gross!!

technically i can't say yuck because i haven't ever tried it, but i love cheddar and apple paninis so i would imagine it would be similar, although the sweetness in the pie might make it taste odd.
