Checking interest -- Bazzill color swap based on characters

I saw this on another site and it sounded like a good idea... page kits based on the colors of the characters... like red, black, yellow and white for Mickey or Minnie. Each person would create a coordinate page kit made up of 3 or 4 elements. The groups would be small, like 4-5 people per group (because there are only 5 characters in the fab 5, only 4 main characters in the Pooh & friends).

My other thought was to make it Bazzill only - I love the texture and quality of Bazzill!

I know there are alot of swaps going on right now, but we seem to have new people joining us every day too so there might be some wiggle room out there...

Any thoughts, feedback, etc?

this is something that I might do...but not right now. I LOVE Bazzill!!! Do you by any chance have one of the color wheel things? I need a certain color matched, and I don't want to order a ton just trying to find out the right shade...(I don't have a LSS here that sells it, other than in a few of the Fourz packs). I do like the idea though!

After seeing all of the great work coming in from the color swap...I love the idea. As things are coming in I am seeing finished pages that will come together so quickly! I just finished my color swap stuff and used the Bazzill and it was great!

I am actually in a swap right now that will give me 2x3 swatches of ALL 607 Bazzill colors!!! I know they sell for about $30 on Ebay. I only had to purchase 25 sheets of cardstock (@ 50 cents a piece) to get in on this deal.

I was thinking of starting in another month and making it due Dec. 1st. I know that's cutting it close to the holidays but I don't think the pieces will be too labor-intensive -- we're not really going to have shaker boxes or paper piecings -- just basics to build on. Plus they will be small groups.

Maybe in another month, people will know how far they have gotten with the other swaps going on and will know if they can commit to another.

ooh, I am so jealous!!!!

hi there. am fairly new to this forum...and the various swaps i've been reading sounds fun & interesting...

my question is...can someone explain exactly what needs to be done. i've posted a thread...and did get some of my swap questions answered...but if i do decide, i want to make sure i can fulfill my end of the "deal"...

and...can anyone join? i'm not an expert at scrapbooking...nor do i know what you are talking about when you mention "3 or 4 elements"...maybe since i'm such a novice...joining wouldn't be such a good idea? (i hate to be the one to shortchange others...cuz i'm not as good as all of you...)

i totally understand if i'm not "wanted" in the swaps...due to my lack of "knowledge" in the scrapbooking world...however, it does sound interesting to me, and i am somewhat intrigued...so what do you all think? please be honest! thank you! :flower:

and everyone is welcome in the swaps.

Elements are different pieces you would make for a page..such as a border, a topper, squares, tags, mats, journaling boxes. etc.

This would be a great crop for a first timer as you would pick a character but not have to have him/her in your finished product, just the colors that represent them.

Ex: Donald Duck....you could do a border that is bright blue, orange and white
also a tag that is in those colors, and maybe 2/3 squares or a journaling box.

Hope this makes sense.

Also, feel free to ask any questions, we love to get new people involved in our little bit of fun!!!

but beware of enablers...and hide your charge card....LOL

Joy: I would love to do this one as we could use it in any book, for any reason....sounds fun but after the ABC swap is done would be better for me. That one is making me crazy because I cannot get an idea to form about what to do.

Tell me more....I love Bazzill. Would we decide ahead of time which Bazzill colors would be for each character? Would we send undecorated items so that everyone receiving them decide how much (if anything) she wanted to add?

I think this could be a lot of fun. I've got my Sizzix file folder die, slide mount die ready :cool1: Fiber or ribbon would be fun for the different characters.

yes, see, I want someone to say "here, use this this and this color for Donald" or whatever...LOL....there are just too many choices!! :rotfl:

Hi rsjj! the ABC swap is my first one, so don't worry about being "new". This is a very friendly bunch (but yes, hide your charge cards, LOL!)

Yes, the other forum I got this idea from had several of the Bazzill colors already matched and picked out. I can point you to several websites to buy Bazzill online if you cannot locate it at your local store.

I do think this is a great swap for newbies as well because you don't have to embellish or make weird cuts.

I was thinking of the categories: Fab 5, Pooh & Friends, Princesses... any other thoughts? Maybe Pixar Pals? Villains?

Yes, I have to get my ideas down for the other swaps before I can really dig into this one, but I REALLY want to do a Bazzill swap at some point so this sounded good to me.

This I like, my newest find is a LSS with a wonderful selection of Bazzill paper. I love working with cardstock. Will look forward to the sign-up. Scrapcreator, I like the sound of your ideas already, lol.

I think this swap sounds like a lot of fun! Heck! I think the swap you're in right now, bubbasmom, where you'll end up with samples of all the Bazzill colors sounds neat. I wish we could do that here!

Count me in on the character-based swap! I'll be watching for details.

I don't know if we have enough people for a Bazzill swatch swap here. It requires 24 people if we go with 2x3 swatches.

I think I would be interested in the swap also. It sounds like the items will be plain and then they could be used for anything , correct? I'm not in any swaps right now and need something else to work on-besides the many scrapbook pages that I have that need to be done!!! lol

STOP!!! No more swaps that I want to participate in. Only pick ones that I wouldn't like. If I keep doing swaps I am not going to have time to actually scrap my pages. :)

thank you for making me feel "welcomed"...i'm still a bit hesitant...but i would like to join...am not quite sure exactly what i'm getting myself into...

here's my understanding...(maybe it's just not as complicated as i'm making it!) i pick a character (let's use the donald duck example someone mentioned), and i make couple elements using donald duck colors...so i'd make a border, a tag, and a square...in those colors. and that's 3 elements for donald duck. and depending on how many people sign up (X)...i'd be making those 3 elements x times and send them all out to those X number of people. and i'd be getting, in return, x number of various elements in the various character colors that others have picked...is this basically it?

ok...i think i can do this...unless there's something else i'm not getting here! again, i really appreciate all your patience!! :flower:

you mail it all to one person, with postage for your return items. She in turn puts all the different packages together and mails them out. Its great fun!

Although as mentioned if we don't stop swapping we will never get our albums done.

thanx...and how do we include postage for our return items? do we provide x number of envelopes w/stamps? or do we include $/check? still not quite getting the "whole picture" yet...although the "pieces" are somewhat falling into place here!

ok...this is coming from a brand newbie, in the scrapbooking/swaps world...after you do a swap or two, wouldn't you have an easier time putting your scrapbook/s together, faster...since you'll already have your "stuff", and all you would add would be your own pix? :flower:

rsjj--each swap is conducted differently -- the hostess will give you specific instructions on what to send, postage and packing instructions, and where to send it. And if you still have questions, you can always ask!

Yes, the idea is that you can sit down and put together layouts faster with all the pre-made elements. Of course, I have been so wrapped up making swap pieces that I have not had time to get the actual photos out and put together the layouts...
