I've never done this before, any help would be appreciated. We are checking in April 30. It was suppose to be my husband and myself in a one bedroom for 10 days for our 30th wedding anniversary. On March 23rd my FIL passed away. My MIL is the healthiest 84yo I ever met. Her best friend is about 30 minutes from WDW. Hence the reason we added her to our reservation. I have not checked in. Can I assume that my DH and I can charge on our Magic Bands and that my MIL can put a card on record so she can use her grey MB for her purchases? I don't think I should check in until we get there so she can register her card at the same time. Does this make any sense lol? TIA!
 
You can go ahead and do online check-in if you wish, i usually do. I often travel with friends, you'll just need to do a quick stop at the resort front desk and pick-up your MILs grey MagicBand and then have it linked to her credit card.
 
I am sorry for you loss.

First, you will need to call Member Services and add your MIL to your reservation. You can order her a magic band on MDE if you don’t already have yours. Or better yet, ask Member Services to help you with this, since there is not a lot of time left.

You can do online checkin and set up a Credit Card and Pin for your MB. Set up a pin for your DH and a dummy pin for your MIL.
When she arrives, she can go to the room if it is ready. If she has a MB, she can go right up. If she doesn’t have a MB, she can pick up her MB at the checkin location.

She can just charge anything she needs on arrival to her credit card. Then, at her convenience, she can stop by the front desk and set up a new PIN and add her Credit Card. It doesn’t have to be at the same time as you.

It would be nice if you were there to greet her, but it isn’t absolutely necessary.

If she has a cell phone, you could text her the room number.

If she has her name on the reservation, she can check in without you.
The Cast Members at checkin will take care of her. If she does check in before you, that may cause them not to send the room ready text, so ask her to text you the room number - or you could stop by the Front Desk and ask.
 
Reading the original post, she said that she has added MIL to the reservation, and travel is within 30 days, thus it is too late to be able to customize and ship a magic band. She will pick on up at the resort front desk. She was asking if online check-in would be a problem if her MIL wants to link her own credit card to her magic band. She does not say that they are traveling separately, I am assuming they are traveling together on the same flights or are driving in the same car.

To relink your MILs magic band to her credit card only takes a few seconds at the front desk. It does not matter if you have done online check-in or not.
