I have read conflicting threads about if you need the actual AP or just the voucher when checking in (to get the AP discount)

I need to get my AP's. Should I order them over the phone or go to the Disney Store and get the voucher or should I wait until I get to Florida, and purchase them there? I think I would stop at Downtown Disney and purchase them before I went to the hotel.

Any advice would greatly help....

Thanks

I bought mine at the Disney store. All I needed was the voucher when I checked in. We exchanged them for AP's later that day at Epcot.

I don't actually have an AP yet either. But I just called CRO about 2 weeks ago asking this very thing. The very nice CM quoted me this years AP rates so I could get an idea of whether or not buying the AP's would be a good idea for us. Of course between unlimited access to the parks and the discounts on the room it will be. Since I have never owned an AP she assured me that I could purchase them at my local Disney Store and spread the cost out, recieve the vouchers , check into my resort, then go to the parks as soon as possible to convert the vouchers to the actual passes.

I hope this helps:)

It absolutely helps.
That was my first idea-check in & then go to the parks- but I got concerned reading some of the threads.

Thanks for the quick replies indymom & Sirius :teeth:

We get an AP discount every year and most times they don't even ask to see my pass when I check in. Several times I hadn't even purchased it until after check in. I wouldn't worry about it. You could always tell them you will bring it back to show them after you purchase it.

Hi - I just booked today and the CM told me we should not have any problem checking in with the voucher...worst case scenario they give you time to activate it.

My fiancee and I have AP's and whenever we go to WDW, we usually end up with an AP rate...having said that, we've never ever been asked to show our AP's at the front desk. A few times, the front desk CM's have actually asked if we wanted to buy park passes! However, we would never check in without either the actual AP or the voucher in our hands, just because we would feel funny!

You only have to show voucher at check-in if they ask for AP.
Get AP before checking in. I was asked for AP the last time we checked-in and showed them voucher. This was at BC in April. We went to Epcot next day to start AP.

When I was trying to book a room with AP rates, I was told that I actually needed the PASS in hand not just the voucher. She told me that we would have to get to Guest Relations and exchange them for passes before checking in. Which would be a problem for us because our plane doesn't gets in till 10p.m.
We have been AP holders before and can't remember ever showing our passes at check-in. I just thought that thru computers they could tell if you had a pass or not.

I was wondering the same thing. Im going to buy our passes at the disney store, make our reservations, and take the vouchers with us to the resort to check in. I wouldnt activate them till we went to the park the next day. I guess if worst comes to worst- I could take the bus over to TTC and at least check mine in and come back. sounds like a hassle though

Can you get the AP rate with a childs AP? I already have the adult hopper pass but haven't bought the kids yet. I would seriously look into buying one of them an AP if I could get the room discounts.

The only time I was asked for proof was at POP in April. The CM thought I had a Florida rate and I said, no, it's an AP and he asked to see the voucher. (didn't need the actual AP) On that same trip, the Contemporary CM never asked to see it.
The upshot is...........the voucher worked fine so get them at the Disney store and then convert them to your AP's after you check in.
