Checking in online question

Does checking in online in advance help your chances of getting room requests?

Unknown.

I originally was completely against it when they started, fearing I would never get what I wanted and be stuck - so I continued to call and have my request put on my reservation. Next two trips, called in advance, my request was not only denied but given the opposite. Both times attempted to be moved to another section and both times refused.

Had nothing to lose by doing online check in - and in about 6-8 stays with online, got my request every single time.

May I please add to the original question...

If you need to cancel, but have checked in online very early, what happens? Is it possible (assuming all other terms and conditions of reservation met, for example, a "room only" booking allows for cancellation closer to date of stay)?

And taking that a step further - will you find out the exact room assigned with online check-in, and can you request to change ?

Whether you check in online or not has no affect on the standard cancellation policy.

Whether you check in online or not, you will find out your room number on check in day. Yes, if you would like to change rooms once you arrive you can if there's another room available.

I've had similar experiences as well. Prior to doing online check-in, I never got what I requested when I called regarding it. Our past three trips we have used online check-in and got all our requests, all three times. I will concur with HopperFan with "unknown" but it's always worked out well for me. I figure it can't hurt to try!

OTOH, when I checked in online for Marathon Weekend 2015, I requested Barbados at CBR - what is probably the least requested island. Got there and had been put in Jamaica 45 - probably the most requested. Not happy (I like being able to walk from the Customs House which is easy to do if you have Barbados but difficult if you are anywhere else) but it was late and I was tired so I took it.

For August, I have my request (Barbados, 2nd floor, corner room) on my reservation and will reiterate it (Barbados, 2nd floor since you only get 2) when I check in online.

... and will reiterate it ... when I check in online.

Hmmm, I don't think I realized that room requests would be offered during the online check in. I shuold have it already on my reservation.

Is this offered for every resort?

I assume the offerings would be different per resort - can anyone tell the choices for Pop Century, or is there a list somewhere?

Thanks.
(Sorry, OP, not trying to hijack your thread, but maybe can help both of us!)

In my experience there is a limited "menu" of requests when you do online check-in. It depends on the resort, but they are check-box options and you can select up to 2. It might include the section (but not all in some cases), higher floor/ground floor, king bed (I have seen this even when King is a bookable category), etc. There is also a check-box to mark if you will be arriving early and want the room to be potentially available over all other requests.

There might be a screencap of the Pop online check-in page on the All Things Pop thread.

This can help in boxing in what is important to you Pick two.
Since I started doing online checkin at POP I've always gotten my requests (50's Lake view).

Dug720 and HopperFan - thanks so much for your speedy and detailed replies!

Since I don't see Connecting rooms on the list and that is my most important request already listed on my reservation, I am wondering whether I should avoid adding more at online checkin since this could theorhetically serve to cancel out my real priority.

I think I've seen some chatter on this specific situation before, but wasn't quite sure what it meant until now. I'd love to hear any insight anyone may have and I'll do a little additional search as well.

Thanks again

I just did online check in for AKL-CL in April. I did not see in the room request check boxes to request a room with bunk beds. I know there is no guarantee that a room would be available with them, but kids were hoping to get one. Do you think I should contact the IPO office to make the request?

Yes.

I've used online check-in for both our stays at the POLY & the YC. I like being able to enter my anticipated arrival time, which is almost always in the morning. Likely just luck, but both of our rooms were ready before 11am.

If connecting rooms is your most desired choice, and if you have already called in that request, I would not add any other requests during online checkin.

I'm in the same situation, and I'm not adding any other requests. I spoke with the call center at Disney yesterday, and the lady there agreed that it is probably best to leave those other requests unchecked so we have a better chance at having connecting rooms.
