Not trying to start a debate here, but, could one of the problems be DVC members trying to check in early, and keep checking to see if their room was ready? I do the same thing, but does housekeeping hop around if (DVC member X) is down waiting for his assigned room, but the room their working on is not a priority? I do wish they would advise members checking out to notify housekeeping that they have vacated. And I am sure there is a system, but I would be curious to know how much time is spent by CM's answering calls from Members checking in on their rooms. I did even noticed a member waiting outside their room once at OKW watching housekeeping till they were done!! If they get stern about it and say, 4:00 is 4:00, check back then, would that solve the problem, still allow you to check in early, but if your room isn't ready, just say call back at 4:00!

I was thinking the same thing!! Everything clearly states that check in is not until 4pm.

I don't see a problem with checking in early, and if the room's not ready then waiting for it. If that's until 4:00 pm, so be it. If it's earlier, that's a bonus. So far, we've gotten to our room as early as 10:30 a.m. and as late as 4:30 p.m.

As for checking back...well, that's what the front desk CM's tell you to do. We are told to keep checking every hour...so I can't imagine that's a big burden on them.

But standing outside the room while the housekeeper is still working on it? That's a mess-up on the part of the front desk in giving the key out before the room is ready. The last thing I'd want to do is make the housekeeping staff feel rushed while preparing the room I'll be staying in.

I don't see checking in early as a problem. As a matter of fact, if you want to go to the parks, you need to check in so you can get your key to the world cards, especially if you get UPH passes or want to use transportation. Where it crosses over to a problem area is when you expect and demand things done before 4:00 P.M. We always check in early and then disappear if the room isn't ready. Sometimes we call back at 3:00 P.M. Sometimes at 7:00 P.M.

That's my point, that it must be a burden, obviously they want to be good at customer service, they tell you what you want to hear. I'd rather hear check back in a hour, then check back at 4:00. But during busy times, it must take away from the front desk, eveyone calling and checking. What I was wondering is do houskeeping bounce around, if I requested room 606, and it wasnt ready and they were cleaning 809, once I check in, would they go to their next room, or go right to 606, because I was there. I would think as a housekeeper I would feel rushed to get it done, and if rushed, things get missed. Just a thought.

When we stayed at OKW last month, there was a sticker on the express checkout envelope saying to call extension xxxx when you are ready to leave your room. Problem was I didn't notice it until I got home, it wasn't very big. A housekeeper did knock on our door around 9:00am asking what time we were leaving (we didn't have a "do not disturb" sign for our door).

I don't know if the front desk notifies housekeeping when someone checks in to put a priority on their room cleaning. I always assumed no. I thought that each housekeeper is assigned a certain block of rooms to work on, they don't jump around. It may also depend on when the prior guest checked out. If you arrive at 9:00am, the prior guest may still be in the room. If they don't leave until 11:00am and it's a 1 bedroom or larger, it's going to take awhile to get it ready.

We checked out of OKW last Sunday. When my husband opened the door to go out & start loading the car, he brought in the express checkout envelope. On the front was a bright colored sticker that asked that we call an extension before we leave. We did that with no problem. As we were leaving we noticed the housekeepers being brought around to their buildings.

First people should not know what room is for them until it is ready. How that incident at OKW happened I don't know. WDW changed the whole meaning of check in time years ago when they added the word "after" to it. What check in means in most places is they are saying your room may not be ready until then, not after. Now in a lot of places that are not as busy as WDW you can get your room much earlier than check in time because no one had the room the night before. AT DVC and WDW this is not always possible because the place is so popular. At DVC they give you a number to call on a small business card to call to see if your room is ready before 4. It is very reasonable to think your room will be ready before 4 because rooms are ready before 4, they all are not all of a sudden done at 4. I had to wait for the room to be ready at 4 about 3 times out of 17 trips, it is not fun, being the last one to get your room. At many casino resorts the rooms only fill up on Friday and Saturday night, so on other nights you can get your room just about any time, which is good for everyone, the casino and the customer, the quicker you get your room the faster you will start spending your money. At WDW, many things are different, especially with DVC and most of the customers checking in on one day, Sunday.
