I will be checking in 2 car seats at the airport (refuse to pay $9.99 a day for a car seat:mad: ). How best is it to check it in at the airport? Large Trash Bags, In the original Box, or some other way? Thanks for your help as we leave in two days.

We just did this same thing a month ago. We put large garbage bags over them and secured them with a little bit of duct tape at the bottom (not a lot - was afraid security would have to rip it open anyway to check it out). We also put a sticker on the bottom of each with name/phone number, etc. - a LOT of them look the same when they come out on the luggage conveyer. On the way there - no problems. On the way home - one of the garbage bags must not have survived (not sure if it was security or what) so there was a large clear SOUTHWEST bag over it. Not a big deal....just took a while to figure out that it was ours since it looked different.

A lot of people just had them out with nothing over them. I don't think it matters too much. Just make sure that the covering/padding isn't a kind to come off too easily or I would recommend putting that in your suitcase.

I bought a carseat bag at Babies R Us for $20. It is big enough to fit 2 no back booster seats. I don't know if it will fit two regular carseats though, possibly.

It was a great investment. It protects the carseats and makes them easier to carry to the check in counter and I can even fit other things in it if I need more space.

It makes them look like another piece of luggage and it comes with a handle and a strap and a tag to put your address on.

Otherwise, just put them in trash bags. I think it would be a good idea to label them though.

I've noticed that if you use a Sky Cap and tip well, they will pack them up for you in nice, thick plastic as well.

Good luck!

I bought a $30 bag at Buy Buy Baby that is probably the same as Beattyfamily's but with wheels to make things even easier. It's roomy enough (hopefully) that I can pack some stuff in the seat (because I am out of room in the suitcases!) and a little more secure for everything that a garbage bag. But we fly all the time so it's a necessary investment.

We checked one in a big clear plastic bag with a twist tie. It made it through just fine. I also put a luggage tag on the seat inside the bag. I actually needed this because at the airport another women tried to take it and insisted it was hers until I showed her the tag.

I have 2 of this bag http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2276637 for my 2 ds's ... it is great.. big enough for ds's Britax Decathalon, and I can pack some additonal things, like diapers and wipes, in with it, then check them with the luggage!

Yup, that's what we are doing. I am planning on using the extra space for "swimming toys". For the OP, ...I think it is a great investment even if you don't fly much...you could resell them if you don't think you will have use for them after this trip!!

Have a Great Trip!
Excited to be counting down the days and not weeks!!

we actually take the car seat on the plane with us and attach it to the seat and place my son in his car seat which he knows he has to stay in (just like in the car )we only have a ns 2 hour flight so it works great for us:)

I also would advocate using the car seats on the plane if the kids have their own seat - I find that my kids sit still much better because they are used to being in the car seats and not getting up. The only thing - some airlines won't let you use the booster type seats on the plane.

I agree but only up to a certain age. Due to the little leg room and the food tray, I stopped using the carseats by age 4. But that's just me. So after age 4, we used the Babies R Us carseat bag to easily transport them to Florida for the rental car.
