Checking booster seats with Southwest and Jetblue

I think I already know the answer to this, but want to be sure I have it right...

We're a family of 4 flying down via Southwest, which means each of us gets 2 free bags. Since we only plan on bringing one suitcase each (plus our carry-on backpacks) this means we can just check the 2 backless boosters we plan to bring (for use in the rental car) with no additional charges - is that right?

We're flying home via Jetblue - 1 free bag each. But my understanding is that car seats do not count as additional bags. So again, I am assuming we can check them with no additional charges??

Thanks in advance! It's a little confusing flying 2 different airlines...

All US airlines allow you to check a car seat or booster seat for free. These do not count against your baggage allowance.

You can find this information on every airline's website.

Oh yes, I did read up on both airlines policies, Southwests being easier to find than Jet Blue's. Just wanted to verify the information here, as we have never flown with carseats before. As I said I was pretty sure I knew, but just wanted to be sure before we leave. Dotting i's and crossing t's, you know... :)

Thank you so much for your help! Much appreciated!

Yes, carseat/boosters are complimentary when checking them. I just wanted to mention about your return flight. We fly Jetblue exclusively now. Going to WDW works great, but coming home, not always great. Since we use RAC to check our bags at the resort, that always means that we have to go to the counter to check the carsears/boosters. About 50% of the time, the line at MCO is so long and slow that we find ourselves giving up and just gate checking the carseat/boosters. We do always go by to check out the counter line, but on our last trip (Oct) the line was huge. One of us always takes their boarding passes and the carseat bag and gets in line, but if the line doesn't move, then we just take them with us and gate check them. We would prefer to counter check them, but that is not always an option at MCO. So remember to add additional time at the airport if you plan to go to the counter. The counter is not always backed up, but seems to be most of the time -- and slow.

You can also carry them on-board and put them in the overhead. That's what I do....I don't want to chance them not making it to our destination with us.

We have flown Jet Blue, Southwest, American, Continental, Delta and United with our kids..they never count the car seat or booster in your bag check! I also recommend taking a collapsable small suitcase in a larger one in case you have more to bring home than you take with you. Have fun!
