Can you take water or other liquids in your checked luggage?

Food/drink-wise, yes...you can pack as much as you want in your checked bag. Just be sure to pack it well enough that it wont get crushed or broken.

packing the milk that does not have to be chilled in a small rubber made container in my suitcase along with other snacks!

And it would help if you pack it in large ziploc type bags because if it does get crushed or broken from being thrown around & stacked by luggage personnel at the airport, everybody whose luggage is around yours and gets their bags wet would not appreciate it (besides the fact that whatever else you have in your own bag would be wet as well)

I would do the same for toiletry-type items: pack them in a Ziploc type bag in case of breakage/leakage.

Thanks for the tip...one step further on this......packed in a small rubbermaid container and a ziploc!!
