Check your Restaurant Bills

We've been back just over a week and found that quite a few restaurants on I Drive were adding 18% service charge to our bill of 4 people. We've previously only had that for tables of 6 or more.

It was very hit and miss. We ate at TGI Fridays a few times and the waiters were really annoying. Halfway through your main course they would ask if you'd be having dessert. One girl must have come up to us about 6 times whilst we were eating our main. As soon as you queried the service charge, it was always ' oh that should have been on someone elses check'.

At Chillis one certain waiter came back to us after I'd paid the bill and told me ' you obviously don't understand the tipping in Florida' and gave me a card with the amounts expected. He was quickly told that I understood perfectly well how it worked and I'd given him what I thought was acceptable.

Just keep an eye on your bills.

good advice!!

last year, we paid double when we didn't notice....and since i tipped 20%, that was 20% on top of 18%!!!!!

we'd eaten at that restaurant many times and nothing ever was added (there were 3 of us) so it didn't cross my mind as a possibility...
and we ate there 3 days earlier and they hadn't added anything...

this was a different waitress and the owner wasn't there that day (he knows us)...

anyway, we were totally shocked!!!!
i haven't eaten there since....bad taste in my mouth to say the least...
truth is, i was so embarrassed that it happened to me...that i let that slip by me...normally i check the bill with a fine tooth comb, but i didn't....
my mistake really...

this was in detroit, so none of you are likely to eat there....i can't remember the name.....

Ouch that's awful when people comment on the amount of their tip that's not good service.

I think Its Bad that they try to tell you how to tip, I l like you am aware of the tipping culture and would always usually tip in the 15-20% region, but tipping in my mind should still be based on service, and I have no problem at all leaving a good tip for good service, I do however disagree with the apparent sense of entitlement some severs seem to have, if you don't provide good service then IMO you aren't entitled to a good tip.

No so true tips stands for - To Insure Positive Service so they certainly don't deserve it.
