Someone at Delta was at the switch changing all the flight numbers, cancelling flights to Florida, re-routing and switching planes through Detroit, Cincinnati and Atlanta. :headache:
They cancelled our April 24th non-stop and all other non-stop flights from Tampa to Boston. They stuck us on a Tampa-Detroit/switch planes-Boston route that will take 2 1/2 hours longer than our original non-stop flight. :scared1:
At this time there are non better flights to ask for on their flight schedule for that day. :surfweb:

Can I ask for, am I entitled to compensation for the 2 1/2 hour flight change? :confused3

Good Luck All,
Joee

We had the same thing happen on our flights last year. They put us on a stop-over in Detroit when we had booked a non-stop. I called and they put me back on the non-stop that I wanted without any trouble and at no cost.

Now that Delta and Northwest are one, they are playing with their flights in order to absorb the new airline and utilize its planes and hubs and decrease the duplicated routes. Detroit is a Northwest hub so they are using that for your flight. You are not entitled to compensation so I wouldn't even bother with that. What you can do is find something that works better for you that day and call Delta and request to be changed. Alternatively, you can ask Delta for a refund and book on another airline.

Good luck!

If you mean - "can I keep the ticket and get some money back?" then NO.
If you read your Contract of Carriage (COC), all you were promised was a flight that started in A and ended in B, on day X. The addition of stops C, D, and E is allowed. As is a change of time on day X. Not arguing if this is "morally" right, just telling you what the rules are.

If you mean - "can I cancel the ticket and get a refund?" then, most likely, YES.
If you can find better flights on another airline (at a fare you are willing to pay), you can cancel your current flights and book with the new airline.

Very well put.

Did Delta not notify you of the flight change? I fly Delta on April 6, and they have already notified me that my flight time has changed by 5 whole minutes.

Since I bought our tickets last May '09 our flight times by have changed 2 hours later on the way down, 5 hours earlier on the way home and airlines from Delta to Northwest to Delta have all totalled changed over 10 times. :confused3
I never got an e-mail about the changes, I've been checking my confirm numbers at least once a week. :surfweb:
I could always call Delta or Northwest and find a non-stop flight between the 2 airlines that worked for us. :teacher:
My luck ran out this time when I called Delta, tried to get a non-stop and was told all the non-stops for that day April 24th, Tampa to Boston have been cancelled. :sad2:
Chances are our times will probably change a couple more times before our April trip. :sad1:
Good Luck All,

This is just a risk you take when you buy tickets 11 months in advance. Remember, Delta has purchased and absorbed an entire other airline in that time frame. Find flights that work within the Delta system or get a refund and buy new tickets with someone else.

Also, you can check and I could be wrong, but my guess is that Delta didn't cancel that flight just on that particular day. Most likely they eliminated the entire route from their system.

Good luck finding something that works!

Thanks! I just checked ours and they changed the times for our April flights. We purchased our flights at the end of January so I really wasn't expecting them to change much.

The only concern I have is that we now have a 35 minute layover in Detroit. And I'm sure that the second flight is going to be in the B portion of the terminal so I'm not sure if 35 minutes will be enough time to catch our connecting flight.

EDIT - I was able to change our return flight. We now leave Orlando later, but there is an hour between the two flights.

Are you actually spending time in Tampa, or was that the cheaper airport to fly home from? You might see if they will move you to a non-stop from Orlando - especially if you'll end up there.

My husband is flying to Denver from MSP next week. His flight has been changed 5 times.! I have a flight booked for July. Mine as been changed 3 times already. The last time was to a time with a lay over in Detroit. I paid for a non-stop flight.! They did change it back for me. Now I am sure it will be changed a few more times before I leave. We always flew Northwest and did not have this problem, but Delta is horrible for changing flight times.

FWIW, there are still 3 nonstops from BOS-MCO with plenty of availability for April 24th.

I know everyone wants a nonstop flight from their city to their destination but that is getting less and less common these days. Neither BOS or TPA is a big city for Delta so if all they can do is fill it with people willing to pay el-cheapo fares to Florida it is not worth it for them to run it when they could route those people via ATL or another hub at a fraction of the cost.

So, even if the OP's actual destination is Tampa, it appears it would be more reasonable for them to see if Delta will let them switch to one of those nonstop BOS-MCO flights. Then they can rent a car and drive to Tampa. I don't have any idea how that will compare in price, but it's GOTTA save them a LOT of time!!!!
