Sorry if this is old news or if it is an ill informed gate employee, but this is what I was told on Thanksgiving day when we got our 2 cars from National.

They are now instigating a new policy. They are going to fase out the EA and let you pick a car straight out of the isle that you rented from. If you rented an intermediate, you go straight to the intermediate isle. If you rented a full size, you go straight to the full size isle. I don't know when they are going to start this, but it is what I was told. (don't hold your breath, though)

I also had to go to the counter because Delta had changed our flight times by 2 hours. (early) I was not eligable for the weekly rate, so they charged me the going rate for Monday when I returned the car. (Had 2 cars for $108 total each and was charged $134 because I had the cars for only 4 days at Monday's rate of $42.99 a day) I poured on the sugar as I explained that I was not content with the rate. Since I made the ressie months ago, I didn't understand why I was being charged todays rate. It said that any extra days would be charged $20 a day on my printout. I asked if I could have that rate. ;) She said that the best she could do was take the $134 and divide it by 4 to give her the daily rate. She ended up giving me the cars for $99 total instead of the $108 I had the ressie for!!! I'm still ROFLMAO about the whole thing! They gave me the cars for cheaper than I could have gotten them on the internet. Silly people.

She probably gave you the lower rate to make a customer happy.
I have had this happen to me.. I went through something like this with Avis if
San Fran. went through 2 cars, and on my return I went to the counter and
she lowered it alot. I have gotten free upgrades with National before I joined EA.
It just all depends on the employee and how you tree(Treat) them. (Oppps) :)

As all 10 of us were standing there looking at the 10 cars left on the isle, someone pulled up with an Impala. I literally ran to it and jumped in. LOL There were 2 malibu's that looked really bad. They had not been washed and had black scuff marks all over the backs of them. When half of us started loading into one of the Malibu's when I went to ask about other cars coming over. They were seated in the Malibu when woman came running over and said we could take a LeSabre. (I was extatic!) The other 7 cars on the isle were some kind of shoe box looking thing that seemed more like a compact car than intermediate. They only fit 4 people in them so I really didn't notice what they were. They were about the size of an Escort. Sorry I didn't get the name of them.

Joe, I'm not a hunting dog! LOL I've never treed anything in my entire life. Honest.

;)

I am not an EA member but when I rented a compact from National last year, we got to pick out which one we wanted. They told us the aisle number and we picked out which car we wanted from that aisle. I think they were mostly Cavaliers in two and four door and a few different colors.

I've noticed that National's cars at MCO are scummier and scummier. I think it's because their turn-over is so high and it seems that they don't even try to clean them between rentals. The Buick Regal I received in July was so filthy on the inside that I complained when I got home. Of course, it's too dark where you pick up the cars to see much of anything :(. I scored a Blazer in November and it too was dirty. Not as filthy as the Buick, but it had a well-abused, "****-it, it's a rental!", grime to the seats and carpets. I also picked up a Chevy Bonniville in Tampa in November and it was perfectly clean.

I save a lot of money renting from National and I enjoy the game of picking out my car from the EA, but I might start picking a different agency if the MCO location doesn't shape up.

I just thought it was strange that the Malibu's were so dirty and the Impala that I RAN when it was driven up was just washed. It kind of made me wonder if there was something wrong with the Malibu's. I did notice when we returned the cars that they take a soap pen and mark on the drivers side windows if there is something really wrong with the cars, though. We passed one that had "no turn signals" written on it. I would have hated to have that car. LOL I think I would have called National asap and asked for them to deliver a new car to me if I would have gotten one like that. Deffinately not legal to drive. ;)
