Okay so you guys didn't about this cute little fish either?

I have never seen them before now.

They're great fish and easy to breed (even accidentally!) We have 8 of them. Bought 4 and ended up with mini-Mickey baby fish. Too cool! :cool1: The produce live babies as opposed to eggs, so it's pretty cool.

Very cool. We got two of them. Hoping for little baby hidden mickeys.

I had some of those when I was little. They lived for a good while from what I remember. Breed easy too.

Do you know if you got a male and a female? The guy at the pet store tried to show us how to tell the difference, but DH and I couldn't figure it out :rotfl: We bought 4 females (supposedly), so apparently one was preggers when she came home with us.

If you do see that one is getting hugely huge (like it's going to pop), they sell little quarantine tanks for about $10. The babies need to be separated from the general population or they probably won't make it. Good luck! I hope you get lots of baby hidden :earsboy: :goodvibes We've had such fun watching them get big.

LOL, it's easy to tell if you know what you are looking for...the males have a spear looking thing under their belly (looks kinda like an extra fin)...the feemale won't have only (obviously)

We had these fish years ago, they are awesome and easy to care for.

I had Mickey fish when I was younger. I loved those darn fish.

Unfortunately, my mother allowed my brother to buy some stupid fish that had a diet of other fish, then let him put it in with my Mickey fish. :( Needless to say, I lost my fish. :(

NO - I don't have a clue. The girl at the store was just picking the ones with the best Mickeys.

And clue what I should be looking for? :confused3

Great a little spear looking thing. :rotfl:

Now if only I can get them to stop swimming away from me as I try and check them out. :rotfl2:

Okay so I checked the fish out. One has a little bump type thing between the fins on the belly. Which I think might be the waste department seeing how the other fish has waste hanging from that same area. :confused3

How cool! I had no idea such a fish existed. :fish:

Cool fish...do they have a name other than Mickey fish? I mean since I don't have a Petsmart around here and I'll have to go the nearest pet store and ask probably...

I have some ( not many because I gave them all away - to anyone who would take them ). Guess my little male was good with the spear. ;) They are lots of fun to watch. They are very hyper and will jump out of the tank when excited ( which is always ) so keep a top on yours. I found it interesting when I saw a dark line straight up the belly of one of the fish. It turned out to be a poop on its way out! And they have the longest poops I've ever seen. I find myself yelling at them "Clench already!". Um - maybe I'd better say that my tank is on my desk at work, inches from my eyes so I get to see more than the usual fish enthusiast. The female will end up being lighter in color and much larger than the male. I found it hard to find the specific "parts" to tell them apart, but once the male matures, there is no doubt. He will chase her constantly, swimming in beside her saying "How about some sushi? hhhmmmmm?" I swear my one female died from exhaustion. Since my tank is only one gallon, I had to rescue the babies right away. Not much hiding space, plants help though. For the ones at the top of the water, I use a plastic spoon - dip it in behind them and let the backwash get them on the spoon. Then you can dump them in the nursery. I'm using a mini brandy snifter. For the ones that swim deeper than an inch or so, use a soda straw with your finger over the end. Put it over the baby and quickly release your finger and plop it over again. Sucks them right up. But they are fast and smart - you usually only get one chance. Especially if Mom is hungry. My last batch had a siamese pair - joined on the belly. They didn't survive mostly because I think they kept trying to swim in opposite directions.

If you suspect you have two females, take one to the store as a sample and tell them you also want one of the opposite sex. One male will be in heaven with 3 or 4 females.

Good luck!
