Will be arriving to Orlando Intl on Sun 29 Feb @ 11 AM. OKW says check in time is @ 3 or 4PM. Does that mean I can't go to the resort and check in after arrival? What should I do for those hours? I want to be there to get a good room. I'm traveling with 2 other parties and think if we want our rooms to be close to each other, we should be there early as possible.

Any advice

I would rcommend you to go as soon as you arrive. For one thing, by the time you get your luggage and everyone gathered together it will most likley be later than planned, then of course the time needed to get to the resort. Addtionally, generally speaking and based on past experiences, you room may be open and cleaned. If so you can probably get in early, and even if it is not, the resort will check you in, and hold your luggage. This way you can explore the resort, get some idea of what it is like and generally get a feel for the place.

We always go directly to the Hotel, the worst that will probably happen is that they hold you luggage and you and friends get to look around... :)

The last two times I have been to Disney we have arrived at the resort early (8 a.m. CSR and 11 a.m. All Star Music). For CSR, our room was not ready (we had reserved a king bed and requested water view in the Cabanas), so they gave me a phone number to call after 3p to find out what our room number was. We could have left our bags, but we drove and just kept them in the car.
For ASMu, our room was ready right away, and all we asked for was resort view instead of parking lot.
Moral of the story, doesn't hurt to get there early. In the case of CSR, it actually helped!

Being a DVC Resort, you can check-in when you arrive. Get your room keys and park tickets, and set everything up. There is a chance there will be a room ready, but that is becoming more rare, sometimes you get lucky, but usually we have to wait. Official time is "after 4pm". Normally, we'll drop the luggage and check-in then head for a park. If you like, you can go to guest services in the park and look for a Mickey phone. Dial the operator and ask for the Old Key West front desk, give them your name and home phone. If your room is ready, they will give you the number and your keys will work...you do not need to stop back by the desk.

Great...thanks everyone for the advice. I will head straight to the resort.
