I have found dozens of different responses to this so I am going to ask anyone that has been on property recently . . . when checking in (we are staying at WL) if we use a debit card for charging priveleges will our card be charged immediately??? I''ve read that your card gets charged for $1500 staying at the deluxe resorts?

I understand if a hold is put on the card for an amount but just wanted to know in advance if this is correct. Is a hold for $1500 also put on a credit card if you use it at check in - mine doesn't have room for that much charging.

Thanks everyone for your help!

We stayed at BC last year and our credit card was not charged in advance.

It is not a hold; it is the limit of charging priviledges until your card is processed with the credit card company.

Say for instance, I stayed at SSR a few years ago. I had two charges on my card; one on Friday for $1,504.66 and one on Saturday for $56.65.

The tab starts all over again when you reach the limit based on your level of resort; value, moderate or deluxe.

You can have the concierge desk run off your charges daily and when you reach the limit of your card, you are free to ask them to run the card. You can also pay with gift cards as well.

I think OP is asking about using a DEBIT card on the room account, not a CREDIT card - there is a big difference. Most hotels (WDW included) can/do put a hold that ties up the money available in your bank account when a DEBIT card is used to check-in at a hotel; however I've never used one at a deluxe resort or for room charges (we don't charge back to our room key). I don't know the amounts OP is asking - hopefully someone else can respond to that specifically.

Disney does not put holds on credit cards or debit cards - i've used both, and i check my accounts religiously when traveling so that I can report fraudulent charges immediately. They don't put a hold on anything.

The amounts you're referencing are for spending limits on the card before it needs to be charged by the resort:

$500 at Value resorts
$1000 at Moderate resorts
$1500 at deluxe resorts

This means, you can charge up to that amount during the course of your stay. Once your account hits that amount, Disney will charge your card, and you have a new $500/$1000/$1500 limit before they charge you again or you check out, whichever comes first. The cards i use at Disney are for an incidental bank account that has a relatively low balance usually (used for emergency travel funds mostly) or a credit card with a $1000 limit (don't want any would-be scammers to be able to get more than that off of my cards). Never, ever, ever in 15 visits as an adult on my own with my own cards have they pre-charged a card on my account to check the limit, or set a hold for the funds. Never. When we stayed at the Poly, i know i used my debit card as it was the only card number i could remember off the top of my head when i did online check in. Had they tried to hold $1500, they wouldn't have been able to, i didn't have more than $600-$700 in the account that time.

They did, once, charge the card i had put down on the room for the balance of my room-only reservation. Which I discussed with the manager at the resort - it was fine, but that wasn't how i was intending to pay the balance, so naturally i was concerned with this practice, and I was assured that this is not supposed to happen. So do be vigilant about that. I have gone back 3 times since that happened, on room only reservations, and never had that happen again, so it probably was an accident, but keep an eye out on that.

Just returned today and used a debit card. For a room only reservation, card was charged the exact amount of the balance due at check in. When the room charges hit ~$500, it was charged again, and early morning on check out it was charged. No holds.

That's how my cc was charged also. They charged the amount due on check in day, then at the end of the stay charged my room charges (I didn't get above the limit to do interim charges).
