Check in stroller at the gate...

We have never travelled with a stroller, how does this work at the airport?
Can we go pass the security with the stroller?
Do we then check in the stroller at the gate?
where do we pick up the stroller when we get off the plane?

You can push the stroller to the security gate, but will then need to unload it and place it on the table (if it will fit through the xray thing). You can then use it until you board and just gate check it.

It is not a problem, just the hardest part is juggling all your stuff and your child as you fold it up for the security gate.

Oh, going through security with the stroller was one hassle I hadn't planned for! DH and I had loaded up our shoulders and stroller with carry-on gear and by the time we made to security we were very unprepared! Having to unload everything from the stroller (including a sleepy DS) and then folding it up to go through the x-ray machine was definitely not something I had planned on (our first time flying with DS). Then loading everything back onto the stroller.
After security everything was a breeze. Gate checking was a piece of cake - hand them the stroller and they tag it and take it. Actually I guess different airports have varying methods - leaving to go to Orlando we didn't need to tag our stroller before boarding (they did it right before stepping on the plane) but on our way back home we did need to get proper tags before getting in line to board.

I had to fold the stroller up and place it through the xray machine then was able to wheel it all the way up to the door of the plane.Then when u land they place the strollers at the door of the palne waiting for u.Thats what they did on our flight.

Taking the stroller through security was a pain the first time but my husband and I have mastered the art. I usually wear my DS so my hands are free. I take care of our carry ons and this leaves DH free to take care of getting the stroller through the x-ray. We then check our stroller at the gate. I will miss the day my DS is to big for his stroller because it is so great to push all your stuff around the airport.

What do they do if the stroller won't fit through the x ray machine. Both my strollers are pretty big.

It hasn't happened to me (we flew with our Graco Quattro once) but I believe they wand it if it is too larger.

I strongly urge you to gate check the stroller!!! It gives the baby a comfortable place and containment while in the airport. (I believe it has saved my sanity!) I have traveled with a double stroller and had to fold it up and put through xray, and the same stroller has been checked with a wand, so I think it depends on sirport or security. You will check in for your flight and tell them you will gate check the stroller. then when you exit the flight it is at the exit of the plane open and waiting for you! (I have almost always traveled Southwest and this is the process I have gone through) Have fun!!!
