Renting a car this time around. We are doing online check-in. Do we still need to stop at security booth or can we use our magicband in the resort guest lane? Do we need to have a room assignment first? TIA

I believe you can just scan your MagicBand. We had the option but I forgot and had it packed in the trunk when we were there a couple of weeks ago.

Last time we were there, we tried to do this and it didn't work. The security guard told us we had to use a MB on our resort room door before we could use the return lane. We were curious if it would have worked had we used our MBs at a park or if you truly do have use it on your room door.

We always just stop at the guard shack. We mostly stay at the resorts that sometimes have parking issues, such as the EPCOT resorts, GF or the Contemporary, and we are usually issued a parking pass. We don’t move the car again until we are ready to leave, so I can’t say whether or not the other gate would open once we have opened our resort room door.

He told you wrong information, I've never had a problem with the band opening the gate before I get to my room. You do have to press it hard against the pad for it to register though.

I don't think they issue parking passes anymore. I've stayed at all the hotels you mentioned and never were given one. We also had no problem just driving in after pressing our magic band against the gate. If there's a long line at the guard this will save a lot of time.

We had one as recently as June of this year at the Contemporary. As with many things Disney, they are consistently inconsistent

We thought it was a bit strange too but neither of our MBs would open the gate. The security guard did something on his computer and then my Das MB was able to open it right up. It might have just been some type of glitch because I don't recall ever having that problem in the past.

We've been told the same.

We were given a parking pass at the GF this past May.

I know sometimes the Magic Bands have issues opening the room doors. My boyfriend had that happen and had to go down to the front desk to get it fixed. It might have had that problem and wouldn't have opened anything.
