check-in process

Thanks to Belgian's bureaucracy I may not have my new passport in hands at the 30d mark.
I have never done the online check-in where you had to upload a photo of your passport. Hence, my question can you do a partial check-in (esp block a PAT) and upload the passport later?

(not that it matters but my old passport expired two weeks ago, normally a new passport takes 2-3 weeks at the most but I then found out our city hall doesn't take walk-ins anymore and the first available appointment is... in 3 weeks *sigh)

You can start and stop the check-in process along the way (saving what you already submitted) but in order to pick your PAT you do, as mentioned, have to complete all the other areas firstt.

Maybe try to check in using your expired passport? If it works, you’ll be able to get a PAT and then you can update the info later.

Yeah I was thinking of doing that cause the passport number will also stay the same, it is only the expiry date that will get extended and I will obviously have the new one before the actual cruise

That's helpful! In Canada every time you renew your passport your number changes.

I had to do that once when I was booking a flight to Japan. I just put the expiration date as one year later than it really was, then called to give them my new info when I got the new passport.

There's a potential hiccup with doing it here, though. Once you upload your passport photo, you can't change it until it's been reviewed and rejected by DCL. For my last cruise, my photos were approved a few weeks before the cruise, so they might get to your info before you get your new passport. I don't know what happens if they see that you put in a fake expiration date. Maybe they'll just call you?

Anyway, if you do get to the port and your passport is still wrong, then you'll have to do an extra check-in step and that'll take some time, so prepare for that. It happened to my mother on our last cruise because of some weird system error that nobody understood.
