Talk about a major let down. Just the sight of the FedEx truck driving down my street increases my blood pressure. :rotfl:

I just left work to go home for lunch and parked BESIDE my vehicle in the parking lot is a FedEx truck. I resisted the urge to knock on his window and ask if he had anything for me! :rotfl2:

I hope the taxes aren't as high as I previously read in this thread, just in case I win. That's almost as much as we already spend for the two of us to go and there's no way we'd be able to afford it. :(

I think if you're in the US it's usually about 30% of the value and I think I read on the rules that the estimated value is $6,000. So $2,000 in taxes? That's just off the top of my head though.

I love reading all the stories about the Fed-Ex truck!! My heart always skips a beat when it comes down my street!!

Congratulations to the winners so far...and good luck to the rest of us!! :goodvibes

...letting you know you won. From what I've read here it comes from Ventura something or other but is there a subject heading? I'm sure I have a snowball's chance of winning but I'm still hoping!

So I was wondering what the subject of the email you received when you found out you won.

Congrats to all the winners!! Send some pixie dust my way (so far haven't seen a winner from VA). :rotfl:

The subject line references the name of the contest... The email is generally from a person with an @sweepspros email address.

I don't think the taxes will be as bad as some people have imagined they will be. My letter from Ventura asks for my SSN so they can send me a 1099-MISC, so it gets entered as income. I do my taxes with Turbo Tax, so I just pretended I had a 1099-MISC for $6000, and my refund only went down $900. I didn't even get to the fair market value part of the prize (meaning, they can say the prize is worth $6000, but if I use the hotel/park hopper/flight price that my friends pay for the same accommodations when they go with us, I can call that the Fair Market Value of the prize).

Still, $900 for a family of four to fly to DL, stay at a DL resort, and get 5 days worth of park entry, plus the $1000 gift card and $500 shopping spree, is pretty *pardon my French* damn good!

Not to mention IF anyone else here did win, you can always adjust your withholding to make up for the added taxes.

Wow! 99 pages of this thread so far! But there's always room for one more, right?

I got a call telling me that FedEx was going to be stopping to deliver a package the next day. I was pretty excited because I knew I didn't order anything. I went online and checked the tracking and it said DISsomething. I started freaking out .......until I realized it was my $40 GC for the vacation club phone tour. Can't be too disappointed in that.

Yes that's correct. I'm the one that posted about the Europe trip I won. Just finished my taxes and I owe 30% of the prize. But I won the prize in 2010 and we didn't take the trip until 2011 so I had almost 2 years to save up.

Everyone is different since it depends what tax bracket your in. I think $2K for a 4 person trip to disney world from California is awesome! Also you get the $1000 disney gift card and the $500 DTD so that alone is almost worth the taxes!!!

Yeah, I did some math playing with my taxes... and if added in a won trip... would lose $2,000 of my refund... which always desperately need every bit of it (to pay off credit cards - with what else charged to them? WDW trips!)

Would be nice to win and take an extra trip.... we've been going twice a year now... but to use a win as an extra trip.... but then well, that extra trip is going to cost me $2,000..... versus if just applied the winnings to an already planned trip I'd be paying for anyway.... then THAT trip would cost me $2,000... versus the $4,000-$4,500 our trips usually cost me.....air, dining, resort...(have APs).... so a winning trip for me would basically save me half the cost of what I normally spend on one.... and then also get me staying Deluxe for a few nights!
But if I were to say yay, I won... let's squeeze in a spring break trip with the win.... well, I don't have $2,000 extra to take an extra trip if were to pay it out of pocket.... or as missing from my tax refund. For us we'd be sooo thrilled to win, and apply it to probably our Thanksgiving trip that we already know we are coughing up the money for!

So I was out of my house all day on Saturday with my mom and sisters. As my mom is dropping me off, I notice a note on my door as my DD comes running out to see Grandma. I say to DD "What is that note on the door?" DD says "OH, it's a note about the package we got earlier today?" As my pulse sky rockets, I say "What package?" to which DD replies "Some package from FedEx." At this point, I grabbed both of her shoulders to face her to me like it was some life or death question. "What was in the package?!?!" DD: "Just the bullet things Dad ordered." Yeah, the clips for DH's new pistol that weren't supposed to be here for another 8 weeks. Thanks Gun-Clip-Bullet-People for the huge let down!!

Ughh The Fed-Ex guy makes me wanna throw up I get so nervous! I've got myself set up for disaster too.. My D23 membership came in the mail a few weeks ago and my name was misspelled on my certificate and my card so I am expecting a package from Disney as we speak. AHH! :scared1:

I wanna be the next Illinois winner! I see their names too and Champaign, IL is about 40 miles from me, Im not sure where Pontiac IL is though. :confused3

Pontiac is east of Peoria just off of 55 i believe. Use to drive through there all the time on my way to college in Eureka..
I am about 45 miles North of Champaign off 57...what direction are you from Champaign?

Oh and sorry...I already have dibbs on the next IL winning ticket:rotfl::rotfl:

How about a winner from SOUTHERN Illinois??? I'm here and I will be more than happy to accept for our entire region!!! :lmao:;)

Thanks for the link to the FMV article. That will come in handy at tax time next year.

For those that want to play around with Turbo tax, I received a 1099-Misc and the prize value was listed in #3 (other income).

I know others who have argued with the IRS regarding fair market value vs what its states on the 1099 - that's not a game I want to play with the IRS. The prize company I won from was really good about only listing what the trip actually cost. I imagine disney is the same.

Airfare can vary greatly & I would only use 2 plane tickets and 2 park tickets-so I WOULD argue it:confused3
