Check in at NYC

So would 11:00am be a good time to arrive? We are platinum cruisers, and we don't need to pick a time, so just trying to find out. Don't want to go too early, but don't want to go too late either since it is only a 2 night. And I only said 11:00am as a time since that is what time port opens in FL so guessing it might open around that time in NYC as well

11am was the first arrival time slot. We had 11:30 to 12 and walked in around 11:20-11:25 and check in was easy with no lines. We had boarding card # 7 and we are first timers.

I'd say 11 is good. I'm thinking it took at least til close to 11 for the crowds to clear from disembarking. We pulled out of there at 10:10 and there were still a lot of people lining the curb waiting for pick up. Two ships in port today didn't help the traffic situation.

We have not given a time formour return pick up. What time should we tell them?
Thanks for all the info

What time did you get on the ship with boarding card #7 from your 11:30am check in? Also, we have car service scheduled to pick us up upon return for 9:45am, do think that would be a good time frame without rushing off? Thank you so much for all the information as you can see, we are all very very excited!!!!

Express walk off and was 7 something until about 8:25...They let Ariel only off at 8 ish and then they started calling characters from there. We had Minnie and were let off at about 9:40ish? We had to be one of the last groups to get sent off. Traffic was a mess. It took a good 20-25 mins for our car service to get up the ramp with all the traffic of Norwegian and the Magic coming in today. Didn't get in the car until 10:10 and there were still a good number of people waiting to be picked up. Just be warned Customs and security would not let you stop to call ur car service or be on a cell phone. They made you keep walking til you were out on the curb. There was limited space near the restrooms where you were allowed to stop. It was very difficult to hear on a phone with all the chaos.

I know for second seating folks Parrot Cay and Animators had 8:15 breakfast and Lumiere's (where we were) was at 8:30. Guessing if you have early seating for dinner, you'll be off earlier than us second seating folks. PC and AP were at 7:15 breakfast and Lumieres was at 7:30.

It had to be around 1 that we got on. According to the people around us in the terminal, it was very similar to how things are run in Port Canaveral with timing.

You might want to go with 10 if you have 2nd seating for dinner......we had told our guy 9:30-9:45 based on what DCL told me...but we should have told him 10. Then again, I think we were one of the last tags called.

Pardon my ignorance but what is Express walk off? I am guessing this is what we usually do but didn't know it had a name. We always skip the last breakfast to get off but is this a new procedure?

Express walk off is hauling your own luggage off the ship and not setting it out the night before for pick up. As soon as the ship was cleared they announced that those who had signed up for express walk off could leave the ship. They did say porters would not be available in the terminal for those doing express walk off.

FYI - even trying to get a porter at 9:45 proved impossible. We ended up hauling our own luggage anyway. We said we should've done express walk off!

I think no matter what you need to haul your bags from the terminal, even in PC its tough to find a porter! BUt it nice to not have to drag them to breakfast, and then all the way off the ship in the morning!

I wonder if it will continue to be this late to get off the ship or if this was just because it was one of the first sailings. I had been told 9am was the latest but that was not for NY. We sail on 6/9. Our flight is not until 2:25p so I am in no hurry.

We have late dinner and currently have a pick up of 9am. Maybe I should change it to 10a???? :confused3

Do you know are there pay phones some where after getting off the ship?

Thinking of booking a car service for pick up at the port, but being from Canada my cell phone will not work in the US and I imagine most car services tell you to call when you are ready to be picked up.

You might want to or at the earliest 9:30. Breakfast in the dining rooms won't be until 815 or 830 if you decide to go that route. 9 will be tough. Guest Services told us everyone had to be off by 930, but that certainly wasn't the case this morning!

Great. I'm on the 6/17 one so it will be chaotic I guess. I think that cinches my decision to take Disney transport from airport to port. That may make it a little easier if they will take our luggage there so we don't have to worry about it at port.

This is my 8th Disney cruise but I have never paid any attention to getting off, I always wanted to be one of the last ones off!!! but this time, we have a train leaving Penn Station at 11:35am so getting a little nervous! Not familiar with calling the character assigned - we have late seating - were last ones off based on which restaurant you were in? and then was it everyone in that restaurant at that time or different character assignments even in there? We could do the express but being off at 8:25am would be a little early. But if we have to, I guess we will :sad1:

I am with you. We are taking a train home at noon from Penn station. I am glad I didn't book the earlier one. I hope that I made the right decision.

At least we can be thankful that we are the ONLY ship in port when we return on Friday so hopefully that will help us out a little with timing!!!!! I looked to switch our train times but they are much more expensive than when we booked it so we will hope for the best!!! Are you using a taxi or car service to get to the station?

Also to our Maiden voyage cruisers - if you don't get out on express by 8:25am, i assume you can still take your luggage with you and bypass the stop at the appropriate bay - would that save us a little time?

Thanks!!

Were the MDRs the only option for breakfast on disembarkation morning? I remember reading for other cruises they tell you want MDR to go to based on your dining time, but the buffet (topsiders in this case) was also open. Same situation or just the MDRs?

same here...
what is the "being called by character" disembarkation procedure? I've only ever seen the giant throng of people in the atrium shuffling their way onto the gangway and into the terminal at a glacial pace.:confused3
