Check-in and Walmart

That's nice! So I guess you find out your specific location the first day too?

Mmm, I dunno, I think it depends.

Because on my first day I think I attended the hour-long housing meeting, but definitely didn't go to casting that day. They scheduled like 3 different times the following morning. I went at like 6 a.m. or something ridiculous. My roommates went at different times than me...and then Traditions was the NEXT day after that. They really stretch it out.

If I remember correctly, the only people who had to go to Casting on the second day was the people who came in late during check in, as well as the ones who needed to go back to do more paperwork. I went to the house meeting first, then got on the bus to go to Casting afterward at the time they gave me. I don't remember anybody else having to go Casting on the second day. That is why I always tell everyone to try to check in as early as you can.

Jlg263: Yep! You find out everything on your first day! Which I think is nicer than making you wait an extra day like they did before.

I mean, as far as checking in late in the day--no. They added an extra check-in date to fall 2010, which is the day I moved in...that maybe made a difference? The first day we just moved in.. 2nd day we went to casting and found out work locations. 3rd day we did Traditions. I remember because some of my roommates weren't able to participate in Traditions because their background checks hadn't yet gone to casting...

I can remember my roommate Brandy saying that we did it all crazy (it was her 2nd CP). But I am positive that's how it went for me.

I actually remember hearing about that. So maybe because they added a later date they had to change something?!

Mine went through fine, but it was just really a hassle for them, because they were still paying rent on that week--but unable to work!

It's something new that they started. It started in Fall 2009, so I was part of the first group to do it. The only thing they do at Vista now is assigning apartments and signing up for classes. Everything else is done at Casting. After you are assigned your apartments and get settled in, they have buses to take you to Casting where you do all of your background checks, and employee paperwork, as well as checking your Disney Look. it's also where you get your payroll debit card.

What is this payroll debit card you speak of? Lol. When I went we just either used our own bank accounts or opened new ones with Partners or Suntrust

You get a bank account with Partners automatically now until you set up your own direct deposit. They give you a debit card. Visa you can use like any other debit card.:thumbsup2

You get this card called the Elite card, doesn't have your name on it--just says Instant Issue Branded and you're only allowed to take money out of an ATM once without fees...it is a PAIN imo lol. Since it doesn't have your name, when you hand it to people, sometimes stores are like eh?? If you get gas, you can't pay at the pump, can't buy things online/the phone... but you are able to set up direct deposit to whatever bank you want, thankfully. I dumped my Elite card fast lol.

Hmm, maybe because they added the extra day at least minute is why they had a second check in day. It takes them months to prepare everything at Casting because they basically are using half the building on that day. So, probably when they added the extra day they probably didn't have enough time to reserve half the building for the first check in day. I know the reason they changed the check in process and have it now at Casting is because they did not have enough room at Vista to fit all of the cps checking in ever since they build Patterson (larger group of cps now) and also because they wanted to give cps the second day to get settled in and rest a little before traditions.

Really?! You can't use it to pay for gas? That is a pain! I was fine with using it my last program because I only used it to buy stuff at Walmart and Disney and I didn't have a car. But, now if I get accepted, I am bringing my car this time. Looks like I'm going to be using my own direct deposit if I want to put gas in my car, lol.

Can you set up direct deposit right away?
Or do you have to deal with their card for a certain amount of time?
What do you need to set up direct deposit, just a check?

Thanks!

Yes, you can set up direct deposit once you get there...your first paycheck might go directly to the Elite card? Not sure how that goes, but you have to call and set up the card and stuff a couple days after you get it so idk...

No no, you CAN use it to pay for gas, but you can't pay at the pump...you always have to go inside. It might not be a big deal to most people, but if I'm on my way to work, and I've given myself an extra 5 minutes for gas, I'm not waiting in a line inside lol. And the fees for taking out cash was kinda a drag...was just much easier for me to have it on my regular card from home. Also, if you have a certain amount left on it, it doesn't work like a gift card where you use it until it's gone and then pay the balance...it will just straight up get declined if you have $5.43 left on it and whatever you're buying is more...gross!! Lol:sad2:

That's still a pain, lol! I hate going inside to pay as well, especially if I'm running late to work. I always pay at the pump and prefer it that way.

I am so glad I still have my Partners debit card...the REAL one. I'm just going to reactivate that, it hasn't expired yet.

Wait, what if I already have my own debit card, can't I use that?

And what is direct deposit?

Sorry if the answers to these questions are really obvious, but I don't know a whole lot about money stuff other than I don't like spending it :P

Of course you can! That's what direct deposit is...sort of. Direct deposit puts your pay check directly into your bank account. (Which you can set up as your own personal bank account.) So you can use your card you just have to set up direct deposit. (Normally just need to know your bank account number or have a voided out check and fill out some paper work easy process.)

That's okay! Ask Away! Direct deposit is when they directly deposit your pay check into your bank account without you having to do anything. That's how you can use your own debit card.

If you don't know your bank's routing # and your checking account #, make sure to ask at your bank...you'll need those to set up direct deposit for your paychecks.:thumbsup2

While the Payroll Cards for Florida-Site Disney Internships & Programs Participants are administered by Partners Federal Credit Union, it isn't actually a Partners FCU account.

Also, it should be noted that Disney Internships & Programs Participants at the Disneyland Resort in California do not receive payroll cards at this time, and will need to make alternate financial arrangements in order to receive their wages.

All Walt Disney World Resort Disney Internships & Programs Participants, are able to choose between having their wages placed on their DI&P-issued Payroll Card, into their own personal bank account or issued in the form of a paper paycheque. You will be instructed on how to make these changes during the Onboarding process after your arrival.

Direct Deposit allows for the electronic transfer of your wages into your personal account (or payroll card) each payday. This is a much faster method than obtaining and depositing a paper paycheque, allowing you quicker access to funds.

For Florida-Site DI&P Participants, Direct Deposit onto the provided payroll card will be set up automatically. If you would like to have your pay deposited into your personal account, you will need your financial institution's Automated Clearing House information, which can be found at the bottom of most U.S.-issued personal cheques or by contacting your bank or credit union.
