Apparently the producers of Idol are scheduling a press conference for tomorrow. There were some irregularities in the final vote count that may have affected the final result. Worse yet, it seems as if these irregularities were the direct result of illegal "vote tampering" carried out by one of the Idol finalists.
Here's the story as I've put together. Late last week, Adam Lambert came to the realization that he would have to sing "No Boundaries" on a CD if he won the competition. In an effort to stop this from happening, he conspired with some employees at AT&T to ensure he received less votes than Kris Allen.
The American Idol producers are furious and want to punish Lambert for the shame he has brought to American Idol. So they are discussing a plan to declare Lambert the winner and thus force him to sing that song after-all.
Lambert is fighting back though. It is reported that Gene Simmons has approached the American Idol brain trust on behalf of Adam and made the case that this small error in judgement shouldn't cause Lambert to lose his second place standing. However, Simmons (and the rest of Kiss) understand the seriousness of the matter, so they have suggested a compromise that would work for everyone: Lambert would be crowned winner in a televised ceremony, but he would not be forced to sing "No Boundaries" ever again.
