we have always driven to wdw before, this time husband has overcome his fear of flying enough to consider it...saw ttcar is about 100 r/t, mears 50 ( got acoupon in my confirmation, ) but heard it takes forever with them ..false or true and does that depend on the time of year( off season) also any other cheaper alternatives? thanks

You might be looking for something less cheap and more convenient.

Several car rental places have locations either on property (Alamo @ the car care center, National @ Swalphin) or close by.. I think it's Avis at Hilton Hotel DW on Hotel Plaza. I also think Thrifty has one close by. So you can rent a car for a day and use it to get to the airport, do some grocery shopping [with no 30minute limit on a store stop either]
a night out for dinner, or shopping at the outlet malls ::yes::

That's what we're doing btw. Possibly lynx back to the airport. Or another rental :)

Last time we flew we used Florida Tours town Car Service. It was so convenient and with three was about the same as Mears shuttle. I vote no to Mears as we spent 2 hours waiting for a return trip last october. they had 75 people waiting at CBR and sent over that time 2 vans for 11. Too much stress. Your own town car is the way to go. They use to have a coupon on line and will give you a free 30 minute stop on the way to your hotel if you wish.

Prestige Town Car is great too...$80 round trip and they also do the grocery stop too!

If there are more than two, the price difference between Mears and Tiffany is not that much. I love having the driver waiting for us in baggage and we get to the resort so much faster. When we rented a car, it seemed to take forever. And I have also heard Mears stops at many resorts to drop off and I have seen their lines!

thanks! if my daughter and fsil go it would be better for a town car, if not i'll check out the other places.

OMG I've been dying to share my tip on saving $ from the airport to WDW. And this is just the place!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rented a car 1 one way from MCO to WDW Dolphin. I kept the car for 25hrs(and I MEAN every second of 25hrs!!!). We used the car for food shopping, drive to play miniture golf and went to SeaWorld! I made the most of my 25 hours don't you think?!?!
And the cost........Drum roll please...............................................

................................ $27.19 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tax included!

I had the codes from mousesavers in hand but did not need them. the rental cost was $20.89/per day. And with taxes it came to the $27.19 price. There is no extra one-way charge for drop and you can do this for both the comming from the airport and going to airport portion of your trip.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG again!!!!!!!!!! I forgot the car rental agency. It is National/Alamo. I even got a free upgrade because they were out of 4 door economy cars(I think this happens often because there were only 6 spaces for this specific type of car). So I got an intermediate because I reserved four doors and the only economy cars left were 2 doors!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I apologize in advance for my over zelous use of exclaimation marks....it's my non-tech version of the 'smiley face'!!!!!!!!!!!!

I REALLLLLLY hopes this works for you!!!!!!!! It's a great way to start a vacation that you will dump ton's of $$$$$ on.............
save a little here...spend ALOT there!!!

take care ~ Debbie

The one way rental idea sounds like a great way to go. Did you make the reservaions for both directions in advance?

WE always rent a car. For our family it always comes out cheaper. Because this trip we are doing universal. So that would of been extra. So my answer is whatever is best for your family. You have to consider how many in your party and are you going to need to go off site for any reasons.

No I did not make both reservations in advance...I wanted my options open for the return to the airport because we were going to a second destination. I did make the MCO/Disney res a couple of weeks in advance But for the return trip I just called the desk at the dolphin direct for prices for the rental to the airport. Unfortunetly the price was right but the timing(you must pick up your car at the Dolphin by 4:00 pm) was not. So I had very little guilt when I took a town car for our return trip to the airport. The 2 charges combined where still less than any other set-up I havge done in the past.

By the way... you CAN drop-off your car at the Dolphin after 4:00pm you can just not pick it up before 4:00pm.

Now this is the only transportation I will use from the airport to Disney!!!

We have always rented a car for our entire stay. When you get a price quote for a town car pick up, does the quote include the tip? If not, how much do you add for the driver? Do you tip extra if you ask for a grocery stop?
