My oldest DS' Boy Scout Troop is going to go camping there for a week in the spring of 2011. So far the trip cost is $11,500, which isn't too bad, considering it's for 50 people but we're trying to do everything we can to save money - this is one case where every dollar counts as the troop is running on a very tight budget and if the cost ends up being higher then they could end up with no money in their account. One of the things I thought of was to look for least expensive grocery store around. So can anyone tell me the cheapest place to buy groceries in the Valley Forge Area? Even if it's only $5/wk cheaper for the average family of 4 in this instance when your feeding 50 people that's about $60.

I'm not familiar with that area, but my first thought was ALDI. I'm not a huge Aldi fan, but I think it might be great for this situation. I plugged a Valley Forge PA zipcode into the Aldi store locator, and there are a couple very close to Valley Forge: Norristown and East Norristown. If I were looking for cheap, I'd also keep Walmart in mind, and knowing where Walmart is might be handy anyway for those inevitable forgotten things!

Good Luck, and have a great trip!

There is a Super Walmart and an Aldi about 8 minutes from the park. There might be some markets closer but SW and Aldi would be the most reasonable price wise. I shop at that Walmart often and it is a really great store. I have never been to Aldi but it is located in the same shopping center as Walmart.

Hmm.. I used to live /work in that area. Now, I know that they are know for more expensive things but Trader Joes is very close to the park "back" entrance. Milk, eggs are one of the cheapest items there.-- cheaper than any grocery store and cheaper than Aldi. Now some of the items are very comparable to other items in that area. There also used to be a grocery store near where the Valley Forge Music Fair used to be.. I want to say it was either a Super G or a Super Fresh right there on the other side of Swedesford Road.

I know where the Walmart is, and that Aldi is new (since I left). Persnally 8 miles can be up to 1/2 hour of driving and the Trader Joes is very close. Norristown and East Norristown look close on paper but with mall traffic and where it could be.. it can be fairly urban very quickly and some may not be comfortable with that. I don't mind it, but some may not be comfortable with it.

The Walmart is down 422 and that can be a mess in even the best of days. I think these stores are in Oaks and Trooper.

Check Swedesford Road, Wayne, PA, or these other key words Tredyfrrin, Easttown, Chesterbrook (these are very close).

I live right outside VF park. By far, the cheapest chain around here is Redners (.39 taco seasoning; .89 tortilla shells). The closest ones are in Phoenixville and Collegeville. There is an Aldis in Audubon and a Walmart right near there and another new, bigger one just outside of KOP. Also, Wegmans in Collegeville and Malvern has cheap staples (.99 5 lb bag of flour; etc) but their meat is higher. Stay away from ACME.
